Finally I got ethanol in my fuel tank! Car seems to run well or even better than with gasoline...Hmm maybe placebo effect, maybe not. Here is a picture from eFlexFuel app that shows injector activity, injector usage, temperature from cold start sensor and ethanol present. Tomorrow I will see how it will start from a bit colder weather. Night time it starts to be below 0 Celsius.

It was -2 Celcius at morning and the car started perfectly! Just like regular gasoline.

Ethanol also cleans out the cylinders of carbon. I've seen before/after pictures on the net that look like a brand new engine after using e85

Ok now I have driven long distances with ethanol so that there is 76% ethanol in my tank, that is about the max what you can get in Finland during winter time. My consumption in L/100KM 6,3-6,4 and I dont use any auxiliary heating for my car so, the cold starts will raise my consumption. But I think the consumption is quite well in line with my gasoline consumption which was 4,7 L / 100km according to the on board computer but when I divide filled liters with driven kilometers I get 0,5L more. Here are my fuel costs calculated by local fuel prices.

Gasoline according to cars on board computer:
    4,7 X 1,469€ = 6,9043€ / 100km
Gasoline, filled liters divided by driven distance:
    5,2 X 1,469€ = 7,6388€ /100 km
E85, filled liters divided by driven distance:
    6,4 X 0,989€ = 6,3296€ / 100km

Like you can see the cost for 100km is lowest on E85 despite the consumption is higher. And I get money back from the bonus system that the station offers when I fill up there.

The car has started well there has not been any problems. Couple of times when it was -10 Celsius I needed to restart the car because it was not running well but at restart the eFlexFuel will learn those settings when the car ran normally and next time it will automatically use those settings at -10. =)

    Hello!
Just wanted to make a small update. There is nothing to report because Finnish winter has been really warm and the temperatures have been at 0 Celsius all the time. No problems with coldstarts at 0 Celsius. I have to wait for colder weathers to see if there is any problems.

If you really want extra miles between trips without stopping, just get a bigger fuel tank. My other hybrid is a 20 gal fuel tank but worse mpg. Gets around 600 mile range, nothing crazy. Much cheaper than a plug-in conversion and more distance.

How is the E85 for mpg? In my area, E85 is actually more expensive than regular gas at the moment, but was different a year ago at a different gas station. I always thought it wouldve been cheaper. For a while diesel was cheaper here than gas as well before going back up. Ive already gambled with the idea of natural gas conversion, but its unrealistic due to the pressure differences of your house pipeline to your tank. Would take 20 hours to compress a psi of .5 to 3000. Might as well go electrical if i wanna wait 20 hours for a full charge.
