Apologies if someone has already asked these questions. I'm new to the forum and haven't yet learned how to search effectively.

I recently (Thursday) got an 18 Prime Advanced, my theory being that my 07 Prius, with 248K on it, is probably living on borrowed time although it still runs wonderfully. I have two questions. (1) The large screen (11"+) is undesirably bright at night. Is there a way of dimming it that I've just not discovered yet? The manual may tell me somewhere, but I've read through the entire thing and don't recall seeing it, and the index has nothing about it.

    (2) When one turns the engine on or off, the car plays what I'm sure Toyota conceives of as a "welcome sound." If it has any function other than noise, I can't figure it out. I would love to disable it. Is there a way to do that? The sound strikes me as very Microsoft-ian: it has no operational function. The question is whether Toyota has emulated Microsoft to such a degree that the user cannot disable the feature. (Disclosure: I am not exactly a fan of Microsoft. I run Linux with a Windows VM only because my University uses Microsoft Exchange, which has no good Linux client.)

Thanks in advance for the help.

The screen dims to a night mode when you use the headlights. There's also a gear icon somewhere in there that lets you adjust the brightness. There is a way to disable the noise! I have done it but I honestly don't remember how. Probably in the settings somewhere. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Ah, but you were enormously helpful. I found the settings I needed. Apparently all that was necessary was your encouragement. Thanks for taking the time to reply; I really appreciate it.

I should amplify so others don't have to search. (I'm a bit slow on the uptake.) Go to Menu\Settings\General and scroll down to Start/Stop Sound. You can toggle it to "off."

Thank you WTig3ner, was hoping for the cheat sheet version. Right to the point.

on the left side of the dash is an array of buttons (heads up display mode, traction control, gas cover release, etc.) One of the buttons (actually a two way rocker) is the brightness level for the instruments. All the way up it switches to "daylight mode" even with headlights on. Just turn it down some and it will switch to night-mode and you should be ok from there.
