I just got rear ended in my 2017 Prius Prime by a light duty truck while I was doing that most risky of manoeuvres: letting someone cross in front of me at a cross walk. Even though the hit seemed quite hard, I cannot see any damage at all. All the doors open and close fine. There is no visible damage to the car including looking very thoroughly under the car. Everything still seems totally straight and lines up fine. Not even a scratch on the rear fender.

While this is a great advert for the sturdiness of the Prius, I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

Does anyone have any tips on how to proceed? Should I get the car professionally checked? I did get the license and registration of the truck driver.

    Thanks in advance!

I think you should have it checked by Toyota. Theoretically, it could have cracked/damaged something inside. Plus, you have the fans and lots of items back there with the battery. Toyota should know what parts are more suceptable to damage. How fast was the guy going and what was the speed limit?

contact your insurance company, and have them notify the other drivers insurance company that you are having it inspected. they should pay for it.

get it inspected... there's all kinds of hidden damage you could have had. the cars are not made to be sturdy at all, they're made to absorb energy by deformation. If the bumper happened to flex back into normal position that's just luck. I would absolutely have it checked out.

    Glad you're OK!

    2 Questions:
    #1:
Was there 'paper' on the accident?

    #2:
Have you ever heard of "Diminished Value?"

I was rear ended and didn't notice a crack in the hatchback which cost almost 5000 to replace. Better have it checked.
