Just out of curiosity.... does having an updated EGR valve in the EGR circuit allow for better exhaust gas flow? I’m wondering if (all things being equal) a Prius with an updated valve would require as frequent or as early egr circuit cleaning? Anecdotally, it seems like going beyond 120K miles on a 2010 Prius before cleaning egr is probably pushing it. Would the same be true on a later model 3rd gen?

Well I could be mistaken.... I thought Toyota had done some kind of TSB on the egr? I thought it was for the valve....

Here's the number on the valve of mine, build-date August 2009:

    upload_2018-8-7_17-49-29.png

And huh: there is a new part number, and this is if I enter model year 2010:

    Egr Valve - Toyota (25620-37120)

Egr Valve - Toyota (25620-37120) | Toyota Parts

(In the comments it says replaces 25620-37110)

Doesn't really clarify why the revision, what the diff is. (n)

i'm surprised we don't have more info on this, considering all the egr work.

There's some mention of the two valves here:

Anyone got check engine light P0401 EGR shows up in every few weeks... | PriusChat

Also a Toyota (pdf) bulletin for the valve replacement is linked. At the bottom of that is an instruction for modifying a cable. I'm not sure but it seems like the purpose of the mod is just to give the cable a little more reach. Assuming this cable connects to the valve, maybe this means the valve housing is a little taller?

I googled images for the new valve, and here's a pic with the new one on the right, mine on the left. I would say the new one is a little taller?

Note also, in the pic of mine, I believe I've reinstalled the bit at the top reversed, that's why it's angling off to the "northwest", vs "northeast" in the new valve pic (on the right). I think I recall doing this; when you try to install back on the engine it obviously doesn't fit, you fix the orientation.

Yeah, I think that's why the pdf (in the link) shows the mod to the wiring harness: to give it a bit more reach. What that length increase accomplishes isn't clear. Googling the difference (between the two part numbers) doesn't give any interesting results. I'd be interested to know, but not $200+ interested, the retail cost of the replacement valve.

I'm guessing they're trying to make it flow a bit better??

A couple of in-place pics, you can see the object of the wiring harness mod, which kinda confirms the new valve sticks out further.

Lots of good information and documentation - thanks Mendel. Yeah.... I was mostly interested in tapping the collective knowledge of Priuschat as to whether anyone knows/believes there’s been any improvement to the EGR circuit performance as a result of this valve change.
