Yep thousands and thousands. But you can get a used AC compressor for $70 on eBay or on car-part.com. And many shops will be around $150 labor (my mechanic is typically $80 to do an AC compressor and he is usually at least half off shop). So about a $200 repair. They are not known to fail I have had many high mileage priuses and never had AC not work.
