I am going to embark on redesigning the UI on the multimedia display. I have pulled the code from the (FOSS) site and we will see where this leads. I will either:

a). Change design & functionality (This will be the hardest)

b). Just changing the UI and leaving the functionality ( This is a more reasonable approach)

c). Block the onboard computer and come crying to the nearest dealership.

I design apps for a living and the UI &UX on the Prius prime is horrible. Looks like a jr designer made it. Stay tuned, I'll post my comps to here & to Dribbble when they are ready. Any advise or help would be greatly needed.

Please get rid of the car on the top. Totally useless waste of space that could be displaying more map, or even important data.

Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry to be trowing a wrench into your coding fun but, AFAIK, in the code source released by Toyota, there is no proprietary information, let alone any code pertaining to the GUI or car interface. From what I could tell, they only released the open source-licensed bits of Linux code that they're using to build their systems (as per license requirements). I would gladly be corrected on this though... ;)

no one has ever hacked the toyota infotainment system, though i wouldn't go so far as to say it can't be done.

Toyota Entune is absolute crap, and being the owner of a CT200H, Prius V, and Prius Prime, I have to say without question that I should NEVER have bought the premium. I should have bought a Plus and spent the $800 to have OEM fit leather skins for the seats. The interface is so bad that a month after buying our Prime, my brother wanted to buy a RAV4 hybrid but bought a CRV instead (an inferior car in most ways) SOLELY BECAUSE the CRV interface was so much better than the crap Entune. The worst thing about it is Toyota doesn't seem to even care.

    Hi Kyle,

Is there any update for your re-designing of UI on the multimedia display? Every time when I look at the display I really want to smash it. Even elementary school student will make better than this. Horrible design and poor color matching...I don't like everything. So sad. Can anyone change display like a modern and beautiful design?

Didn't any of you play with the interface when test driving the car?

I had a 2013 Prius v with an interface I hated. Knowing how much my phone advanced in 4 years, I figured the Prime "Advanced" would be amazing. I was so wrong. :giggle:

While I wait for a new and improved version to arrive, I keep my 11.6 LED display turned off most of the times. I felt no need for it for most part. ;)

I would love to see Apple CarPlay available to use in my 2017 Prime. I heard it is coming possibly in 2019 but I already own one.

i think toyota is spreading rumors, to keep people buying, in hopes that their antiquated software can be updated.
