How much oil burning is acceptable?

    I put a "can" of Techron in my tank, but I did it after filling... Wonder if will mix properly after that or not. I was wanting to check out the PCV valve. I'll have to look into the EGR cleaning? I used to have a 04 Accord I4 (RIP) and had similar mileage and I put a similar amount of miles on it and it burned no oil. Even 1quart every 1k seems like a lot.

    But you guys think it will be manageable and last a few more years and hopefully hit 200k+? ...I dread car shopping.

    it will if you don't let it get below the min mark. the low oil light only comes on after a piston rod punches a hole through the block, so keep a close eye on it, and follow rays advice on the egr.

    A lot of people on amazon leave feedback that are overstatement and some positive feedback are from other products and are filtered into another product to boost more positive feedback.

    The best feedbacks are when the color of engine oil drained is clear as it was poured in.

    I’ve been adding oil every so often for over 60 k miles now and at 184 k miles on the clock:).

    Keep an eye on the dipstick, add oil as needed and you’ll be fine;).

    Unless both are thick as syrup, it will mix. At times I'll pour fuel injector and fuel additives the morning after, no matter what it will get sloshed and mix uniformly around at the next intersection.

    As for the 300K milestone, you'll have to be on top of the dipstick and the big maintenance some have recommend to get there.

    99% of the time, I buy Chevron Techron gas. And twice a year I pour in a seperate bottle of Techron fuel additive. I aint got the energy to do much more than that. :LOL:

    I don't think it will matter too much since your gas will be mixing/sloshing as you drive. But the bottle does say before.

    I would also do that oil change as you had planned. Then monitor how dark the oil gets over time and change as needed. Too much dark oil should not stay in your engine system for too long. It can add to more engine build up. I would let Techron do it's thing over time. If you can also post your progress over time that will also help us evaluate the effectiveness of Techron. A lot of PC users use it, but none have really posted clear results. Mainly we want to see less and less oil consumption as well as cleaner looking oil. Yes, you should check into other cleaning as well. As more carbon debris gets freed up, a clogged system won't help.

    It's one liter in 1,000 km. The conversion to imperial is what takes it away from simpler numbers.

    Not a smirky question but what if 50% detergent still left but coffee brown is the oil complextion, change or no?

    The oil color looks like a mix of 1 and 2. But I have issues reading my dipstick sometimes. For whatever reason the oil will be on one side and not a even coating like the pictures.

    I see Lightning Racer and Mendel Leisk have their Fuelly trackers up. I got some questions for you two. Do you guys work to get that mpg? How long are your drives? Lots of stops? What oil do you guys use? When I went looking for 0W20 there wasn't much selection. I seen some kind of eco fuel effiecent oil (forgot the name) and then what I got Valvoline Syn Power. I didn't see any high mileage oil in my weight. But I'm going to be going back for another since it seems I'm burning oil and put a quart in to get me by and want to do my oil this weekend. Maybe I will go back for the eco oil and use the Syn Power as my topoff oil.

    Oddly on another brand car forum I just read a posting from a guy who runs a repair shop and so reads trade mags and such and he was saying that various manufacturers use differing additives in their recent formulations and that there can be conflicts between those additives. So he was saying that you should stick with one brand of oil till an oil change. As he has an excellent reputation over there and I've been following his helpful postings for years, it just might be worth checking out. bibistheoilguy is a place where oils and their contents is constantly discussed.

    Don't move to high mileage oil until the is reason is legitmate. If its, I have a lot miles on it so thats why I'm putting it in then you'll regret it.

    I'm using Toyota 0W20, exclusively. Our trips lengths vary, grocery runs and occasional cross town. We've got a block heater and try to use it for an hour or two before the first trip of the day.

    We're mostly rolling on Michelin Pilot hx MXM4 215/45R17 original tires (yes, replace them before they fall apart, lol), and 15" X-Ice through winter.

    4.9 litre per 100 km is not that great, translates to 49 mpg IIRC. But, I'm ALWAYS trying, a "closet" hypermiler.

    Per the chemical engineers at bobistheoilguy if burning oil in of itself dirties the EGR and cokes and damages the engine you may wish to use Aeroshell 15w50 oil.

    It will protect the engine as well as any other oil but is designed to burn cleanly leaving no deposits, it does not coke up and will be leaving your EGR clean

    No idea how much it costs but maybe it would be a better option since you won’t need to have a catch can or clean anything
