Gentex 453 on Prime Premium

Hey guys,

Just purchased my Prime Premium two weeks ago (switching from 2013 Plug-in) and I am amazed on the improvements except for the 4 seater and smaller trunk space. I've always installed rear view mirrors with homelink on all my cars but I noticed that the new Prime with the lane sensing camera gets in the way. So here is a quick solution if you already hardwired the power/acc/ground for the rear view mirror.

Why spend $500 for the longer neck version from the dealer when you can do the following:

1. Purchase a Gentex mirror from eBay for $50
2. Purchase a Brandmotion 5000-SPCR Windshield Mirror Spacer $55
3. Dremel the current cover to adapt the extension
4. Assemble everything back and you are done!!!!

If you purchase an used Gentex mirror from ebay or an older gen prius mirror, the neck of mirror is too short because the camera cover gets on the way. They do sell a new OEM (by gentex) with longer neck for our Prius but it costs $500. My solution was just to add a mirror extension and then trim the camera cover to fit. Hope this makes sense

 

Ohh....I can't live without the Auto-dimming mirror and Homelink feature =)

 

I ran a fused wire from the fuse box through the pillar.

I used this to get power from the fuse block. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to put the fuse cover back. I just left in my glove box.
