Even with the 100 mile commute you will get better gas mileage than a regular prius. The price is competitive for a non dealer PIP. I think you will like the car and the 50+ MPG will make your commute a little more affordable. Plus you can plug in at home and do your weekend run around in electric.

And '13 works for me, too. AFAIK, all years of the PiP have been remarkably reliable.

    I second this.
I got a 2013 PiP base(see my signature for details) and have been happy with its little tummy(gas tank) eating less and running like a young boy. I was attempting to bite Lexus CT200H at that time, but somehow dropped to PiP and have been happy.

I bought the 2013 PiP you saw (passed along the 2007 Prius to one of our children).

It's been great so far. I got 52 mpg on the 1700 mile trip north after purchasing it, almost all interstate driving.

Now while commuting (variable distances, but generally 15-16 miles one way, mostly only plugging in at home), first tank has been averaging over 70 mpg.

Those sound like perfectly normal mpg numbers for that car in the summer. On longer drives around town (50 miles or so) just charging at home, I'm usually about 70 mpg, too. Todd was great, wasn't he? I've never seen a dealer who cared as much that the customer understood the car they were buying. I've bought four from him so far.

I ended up buying a 2018 Prime Plus in blizzard pearl color for 26k plus ttl. After all the rebates it would be like 20k plus ttl so I think its a good deal. If would be nice if I could take advantage the full federal tax credits but based on my last yr income tax, its less than a thousand only.

I will also chime in. I recently went from a Prius 2011 to a 2012 Plug in. I was not searching specificlly for one but wanted another 3rd gen with radar cruise.

    - I drive 100-200 daily
    - Both on 17" FRS wheels
    - only plugging in at night
(Maybe on and off on weekend stuff)

My average went from 43/44 to 59/60.
My understanding is that even though the range is shit, it is a lithium vs nickel battery. Also size of 4.4 vs 1.3. So even after the range part runs out, it does seem to charge faster and hold a larger charge but that could be the lower mileage too. Overall it feels stronger or a bit smoother torque even though numbers say it is slower?

Todd was great, and I couldn't agree more about his willingness to explain and help.
