I thought Toyota had a special charger dealers could borrow to recharge the HV pack.
The fact they are using a Prolong charger has me suspicious. I doubt they consulted Hybrid Automotive about whether it would work for this case. I doubt they bought the Prolong Pro meant for service centres either.

It still makes no sense, as the voltages provided for the 10 blocks total out to about 94 volts when placed in series, as that is how the battery is constructed. If they're attempting to charge it, but only show 13.1 volts then they have something wrong or broken.

Even after pumping the diesel out and fresh gas it would take several attempted starts to clear the fuel lines of gasoline. Mentioned above about running the fuel pump just to purge the fuel lines would be a good idea.
My guess is the HV battery was already dead right after the diesel was put in and too many start attempts.

    WOW!!! What a thread.

I was wondering if it's possible that in trying to start the ICE, they ran the traction battery down so low that one or more cells actually reversed. What kind of crazy readings could that generate?

My knee jerk reaction when reading that someone other than the owner put diesel in it is that, if that can be proven, then that person should pay for all repairs. If it was a real friend, said friend would actually insist on it unless they were destitute.

Thats the readout after the attempted engine charge. Which as you said, could be discharging the battery significantly. I'm assuming the readout before is 13.1*10=131volts. So the battery is then dropping to 94v after the attempt.

I'm almost sure the issue is still with the engine/fuel line. The dealer is being extremely opaque with us. We are not getting a straight story. Even the diesel, we aren't sure. They said they saw a receipt in the car for diesel (which friend confirm they did leave the receipt in the car) but they havn't been able to provide the receipt. We asked many many times. We had to ask for 2 weeks for the diagnostics before they gave them to us. At this point, I gave the go ahead for them to order a new battery. I sent them a letter telling them that we want to keep the old battery and that if it turns out to be an engine problem, they will put the old one back and try. That's the best we can do. This is the 2nd dealer we went to. Can't get it towed again to a third. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the help!
