So the mechanic who changed the front driver wheel hub didn't align the ABS dust shield opening with the ABS sensor slot. :( Is it possible to rotate it without removing the wheel hub? I'm currently getting the (!), ABS, and VSC warning, and I'm almost certain this is the cause as there weren't any codes on it previously.

Also, I think my sensor is damaged from the look of it... Looks like I'm gonna need to replace it.

    Thanks for any help/recommendations!

Yes, I believe t can be done. You can use a large flat head screw driver top pop the dust cover away from the hub. There are videos on you-tube showing this to allow removing the hub without removing the knuckle. This is exactly how I installed new hubs on my son's 2005. Remove the sensor first then pop it away from the hub, rotate it a bit and slide it back into position. Will take a small amount of tapping to push the metal ring it back into position. Verify the window alignment. Re-install the sensor.

So, I just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. I would still need to remove the axle nut, right?

Just wanted to give an update to help others in the future. Long story short, I adjusted the dust shield and all of the codes are now gone! :) Thank God!

So, if you have this issue, here are the steps to adjust the ABS tone ring dust shield:

    1. Buy a replacement axle nut (I got mine from the local Toyota dealer ~$10). You don't want to reuse the old one.
    2. Disconnect the negative cable on the battery. I disconnected it from the body and then wrapped a towel over the connector. You don't want to take any chances of anything going out of whack.
    3. Follow proper jacking procedures to raise up car and then remove wheel (loosen lug nuts on the ground first if you don't have an impact wrench).
    4. Remove the ABS sensor with a 10 mm socket.
    5. Pry up the dented-in part of the axle nut so it won't damage your axle threads. I used small needle nose pliers and small wrench.
    6. Remove the axle nut. I used a Chicago Electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight and it had plenty of power to remove it. You'll also need a 30 mm 12 point for the OEM axle nut. My axle that I removed wasn't OEM and it had a 6 point so I used a 32 mm 12 point to remove it. (Got the sockets from Harbor Freight as well-A Toyota dealer parts man recommended it (y))
    7. Push axle through hub to give you room to work with the ABS dust shield.
    8. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the shield loose toward the middle of the car. Be careful to ensure you don't damage the shield.
    9. Clean the ABS toothed-tone ring with a wire brush while you-re in here.
    10. Align the dust shield opening with the ABS sensor slot. Try to align it right in the center.
    11. Lightly press in the shield, the axle nut will help with this later so don't worry too much about it.
    12. Replace axle nut and tighten to 159 ft-lbs.
    13. Replace ABS sensor.
    14. Put wheel back on and torque to 76 ft-lbs.
    15. Lower car and take it for a test drive! (y)

Why didn't you take it back and make him do it correctly?
