    Hello,
I bought my 2005 Prius around 2 years ago and replaced the battery when I purchased the vehicle. I have since gone through 3 traction batteries via warranty and now I have another one giving me the bad battery codes. Currently the vehicle over idles and over revs when accelerating and struggles to accelerate at all past 30mph. Is there something else that could be causing these batteries to go prematurely?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the new batteries are not really new batteries, but second-hand batteries known variously as rebuilt or refurbished.

That is really the problem. If the car is in otherwise good condition and you intend to keep it for at least 5 more years, stop faffing around with second-hand batteries and buy a new one.

Would you buy a second-hand 12 V battery that was well past its prime or second-hand tires with 3/32" tread-life left?

What has your warranty experience been.

Do you drive this car regularly?
Or does it site unused more than a week at a time.

Any idea if the hv battery fan was cleaned?
Or if the throttle body and MAF have been cleaned?
    Just curious.

What has your warranty experience been. They gave me a hard time about replacing the battery last time. I doubt they will this time. Shouldnt they have too anyways as the warranty was 3 years?

Do you drive this car regularly? Yes, it has been my daily driver
Or does it site unused more than a week at a time.

Any idea if the hv battery fan was cleaned? no, could this help?
Or if the throttle body and MAF have been cleaned? no, helpful?

Sorry I am a total Prius noobie. Just trying to get my car running correctly. So there is no possible way something such as a sensor, or the charging/regen system could be doing something to my batteries?
    Thanks,
    Trevor T

I'm going to guess these are dorman batteries.

Don't let O'Reilly's hear that you did not clean the fan.

You may remember that there was a green sticker with words on it that said you must clean the fan as part of the install or the warranty is void. The sticker was pasted over the orange plug location. You would have had to remove it in order to out your orange plug back in.

Take a picture of this sticker when you get the next one.

    You must clean the fan.

I would take a moment nto clean the Mass Airflow sensor as well as the theotthr body.

You just have had bad luck with the batteries unfortunately.
