First Thread - New Wheels, Towing Question

    Hello everyone. This will be my first thread I believe. I bought my 2015 absolutely red persona last year at a Toyota dealership as a lease turn in at 30k. Recently I ran over some bumps the city had put down to separate traffic. They're placed at the bottom of a hill and it looks like paint until they're right underneath your tires. The end result (which you can see in the pictures) was a broken wheel, two blown out tires, and at least one broken hub. I took this unfortunate opportunity to order the wheels I always wanted for it. Drag DR-69. It turns out I did it just at the perfect time, too because they were apparently discontinued and we had to get stock from a store 4 or 5 hours away to ship their set up here. The factory wheels are a 50 offset. They made the DR-69 in a 47 and a 40 but the 47's are all sold out. We are hoping they'll show up Wednesday. I'm curious to see how the 40's will fit on the car (wheels are the same rim diameter and width). I'll post some pics after I get them put on.

    Now does anyone on here launch boats with a Prius? I have a 15 foot aluminum boat (weighs like 350lbs empty, the trailer is 250lbs, motor and gas another 150lbs). I'm pretty confident she can handle it just fine, but I was curious if anyone else has been doing this regularly and had any suggestions.

    Welcome to PriusChat! If you go after the city there is always the danger that they will ask you "…so what part of SPEED BUMP do you not understand?" (…sorry, but I just had to ask!) :rolleyes:

    You'd hate it here then, we have them all over the place. It started with the local high school kids driving too fast after school, but it wasn't limited to them as there were plenty driving too fast all day long. I don't like them either, but in addition to lowering speeds, they have reduced traffic through the neighborhood and that's good. Ours are designed for 20 mph and the Prius goes over them quite nicely. I wish the same were true with the Dakota. :)

    Around here mall parking lots are the worst. There's one in particular, I think the contractor who put them in was maybe payed by the quantity: you're back wheels are barely past the previous speed bump when your front wheels encounter the next, three of 'em in an effing row, along maybe a 100' foot stretch. I go over those at dead-slow (as they say in the Navy), gently up-and-over.

    The worst though are like the one you encountered: isolated, on some stretch of road, at the bottom of a hill in particular, that catch you off guard. Somebody should take a long look at the $ impact these are imposing, the tire, rim, wheel bearing, suspension damage.

    An additional safety hazard with them, especially the mall parking lot ones: people start driving through the (empty) parking stalls, over on the wrong side of the road, all sorts of accommodations. Makes for the occasional fender bender, pedestrians endangered.

    Did I mention I hate them...

    A close second: "traffic calming". A few years back they "improved" the main road near our place, widened the center line in places to nearly a lane's width, and wowed out the curbs at crosswalks.
