Just got a letter from Toyota Canada, Warranty Enhancement Program, for Brake Booster Assembly. Old news in the States?

Yeah we got a recall in August 2013, same subject (Brake Booster Pump Assembly) and description (there is a possibility that a crack could develop in the bellows). So same thing, first the recall, now the warranty extension.

We purchased in November 2010, and very low miles, so it basically means warranty extension to November 2020, the "Secondary Coverage".

Deadline for me for this is November of this year. Off-and-on I hear an "odd sound", just as the car comes to a stop. Typically on a steep downhill grade.

At the beginning of the document I posted above it says:

"If you experience the condition described below"

And flipping to the back it says:

"If you experience the condition described above"

So I thought I'd try to find some "condition description", and all I see is:

    "certain internal malfunctions".

    Yeah...

Well a terse email off to Toyota Canada, will post if they respond. It had to be terse, they only allow 250 characters, lol.

Yeah, this looks like the Canadian counterpart of the US "ZJB" campaign (which got rehashed some recently in another thread).

You can see that this one concerns "internal malfunction of the Brake Booster" and, for Gen 3 this has to be harped on, the "Brake Booster" is not the "Brake Booster Pump". In Gen 2 they were combined in one assembly; in Gen 3 they are not.

The accumulator, the thing with the bellows that can crack, is part of the "brake booster pump" assembly. This warranty enhancement is about something else going on in the other assembly, most likely an issue with one or more of the many valves it contains. There is an investigation underway by a US agency that might end up bringing more details to light.
