Thinking about changing to a set of Goodyear Triple Tread tires as all the comments seem to be extremely positive. The problem is, the smallest size is a 19565R15, and the Prius seems to want a 185.

Can I put 195's on the car, and if I do will I screw up the speedo, nav system calculations, etc?

If the answer is no, then I'm also considering the HydroEdge from Michelin, but from what I've read there's a big difference of opinion over the road noise from these tires.

    All comments welcome.

    Thanks,

    Geoff

    Thanks olends,

I found another thread talking about changing tires/wheels and also a real handy online calculator for comparing the dimensional differences between tire sizes. Doesn't really look like there's much downside to going to the 195's other than a bit of speedo inaccuracy and potentially small loss in mpg.

Now all I need to find is someone who has tried the Triple Treds on a Prius!

I read some good things about the goodyear assurance tires. I changed the OEM tires as soon as I bought my car as I really disliked them. I don't think you can go wrong with the next tire size. The MPG hit will be minimal. I also remember reading that there is a setting on the screen where you can set the tire size. Don't forget that the tire size in Europe is different. This is probably why they have this setting change available. If you do get the tires, let us know what you think. Also, please tell me where you service your car. I live on Long Island too. Thanks! :)

I'm probably going to give the Goodyears a try. The dealer's going install them before I pick up the car on October 9th, and then I'll have a nice 1,000 mile ride home to see how I like them.

As for service, I was about to ask the same thing from all the other LI Prius owners - who do you like??

I would love to know before I spend $400 usd on winter tires, are the 195-65r15's ok knock to knock and do they rub in the rear with weight in the back?

You are posting in thread last updated in 2004. There is a fair chance no one is still following it. Making your own thread with a title about your question may get better response.

I really doubt clearances would be any problem, but like you mention in the other thread, they want you to sign a disclaimer. You'll achieve a whole 1/4" more ground clearance lol, and throw off the odometer, "gearing" etcetera. Narrower snow tires are also more effective I think. I'd stick with stock size.

195/65-15 is the correct size, the speedometer is correct with them, the 185/65-15 are undersized and the speedo is off 2mph @50mph, and no there are no body wear problems.

My door says 185-65r15 and that's what I have on it, but my speedo reads 72 at 70 and my front bumper is always scrapping even at low low speed pulling in and out of driveways, gas stations, etc... So I want to run 195's if I can as to lift the front, even if ever so slightly as well as reduce the revolutions per mile in turn correcting my speedometer discrepancy.
