Good Luck with it! The 2010 is a nicer car than the 2004, but it prone to burning oil, if they do replace the inverter, that would probably be the next thing to watch out for!

If it is going to the dealer for the inverter, ask them to test it.

put a volt meter on the jump point under the hood in the morning, before starting anything.

Many Toyota models tend to use oil as they age (100+ miles).

The 28 battery modules are interchangeable but the Gen3 ones have a somewhat lower series resistance and can therefore handle slightly higher current (130 vs 100 amps). The quality is equivalent, but the overall HV batteries are not interchangeable, just the Modules.

    Bisco,

The issue on the Gen3 modules is that Toyota chose to push the HV battery to 130A peak currents and the increased heat generated makes life harder for the Gen3 modules. The Modules themselves are actually somewhat better performing than those in Gen2 Prii and, of course, also younger.

Gen1, gen2 and Gen3 as well as one of the Gen4 models all use NiMh (Nickle Metal Hydride) battery cells (6 cells in series at 1.2 volts each). My 2016 Gen4 Model 3 uses Lion battery cells.

thanks jeff, that is interesting. a few people here who recondition batteries for a living claim they are not as good, but i don't recall why.

Sorry, but my direct experience is with the Gen 2 (i had a 2004) and Gen 4 Prii (I have a 2016), not with the Gen 3 which has a history of egr problems.
