Cracked rear coil spring on 2005

    So, I got my oil changed at the dealer and they said that I have a cracked rear coil spring. They quoted $350. So I took it to my real mechanic and he looked at it, said it's fine for now but I do have inspection next month. He said my struts feel fine. I'm having trouble finding just the spring since the Moog ones are out of stock. I did see Unity quick struts but I don't know if they're any good whatsoever. Hoping someone can shine some light on whether to just go with springs (and a link to some) or get the complete struts and lend an opinion on good ones. Also, it has 122k miles.

    you can't buy just the springs from toyota?

    My dealership didn't have them. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid the upcharge. If there's an OEM site, could you point me towards it?

    Edit : Nevermind I found it. With shipping it's almost as much as one of the complete struts. I'm hoping someone can chime in on the quality of that brand.

    Are there any decent Quick Struts? Or complete assemblies? I'm having a hard time finding rear springs alone and I'm kind of only running into small name complete struts. If anyone can lead me in a good direction I'd highly appreciate it. I have inspection due next month and I'd hate to get stuck having to pay for whatever is available.

    Your car has 122K miles, so if you are going to the trouble to replace the springs, then replace the shocks as well. Clearly the roads you are driving on are not wonderfully smooth, if a spring actually broke.

    My suggestion is that you buy the correct springs and rear shocks for both the left and right rear corners of the car. The springs are $48 each and the shocks are $49 each here:

    Also, are they different parts for each side? I only see one part number. I apologize, I've never dealt with suspension parts before.

    Yes, your order will be fufilled by a Toyota dealer's parts dept.

    The rear suspension uses the same part numbers on both sides of the car.

    The front suspension has different part numbers for the struts.

    I just replaced the front struts and rear shocks on my daughter's 2007 (90K miles) this past weekend so that experience is very fresh in my mind - in case you have other Q's on this subject.

    I'm having my mechanic put them in, so not really anything as far as technical questions. Assuming that the cracked coil is the only bad part on now, would I need to buy anything else for this?

    Hi everyone - so i apparently have a rear cracked coil spring too, according to my mechanic. Any opinion on just getting springs vs quick struts? the springs are $100 delivered, and the monroe quick struts (are they any good?) are 230 delivered. My car has 167,000 miles on it and I do not think the rear suspension has been changed out before. I am leaning towards the quick struts, taking out the interior myself (to save money vs paying mechanic to do it) and then giving it to my mechanic for the quick strut install. any advise/ideas about this approach? I might end up spending the same total amount i think if i get springs and ask my mechanic to change those out vs getting full quick struts...

    go for the quick struts. after 167k the struts are worn out, even if they're not leaking. if you can remove the interior without breaking anything, you can replace the struts yourself too. the interior removal is frequently the worst part of the job. while your in there, clean the battery fan. I had a rodent nest next to my battery when I bought my '06, so make sure you ain't got that happening.

    Yes i am thinking of doing them myself if it is the quickstruts...pretty much the hardest part would be to remove the bolts/nuts and i have an impact gun...
