We park our Prius in a garage and wonder how far the fob should be kept from the car? 2010 Prius.

Do you lock it in the garage?

Far enough away it doesn't see the key. To shorten that distance put it in a metal box.

The owner's manual give the effective range of about 2.3 ft. (0.7 m) of outside front and back door handles. However, If the vehicle is not driven for extended periods, to prevent theft of the vehicle, it should be 6 ft. (2 m) away from the vehicle.

Vincent, Thank you for your answer. I question the distance because the 16 month old battery in the fob showed a depleted charge on the vehicle's display, yet the fob was kept 15-20 feet from the vehicle. The car had been parked in the garage for six months during that period of time.

Padroo, Yes the vehicle is in a locked garage, but the car doors are not
    locked.
