I have a 2010 Toyota Prius 123,000 miles on it that is occasionally showing the PA080 error. So far for my troubleshooting I have done the following:

    1. Bought OBII sensor and Torque Pro app and monitor voltages V1-V14 while driving. (Whenever an error occurs it is always PA080 and I clear it out while driving using the Torque Pro app.) Usually all the values when I look at the Torque Pro app are all similar except occasionally Block 6 falls a volt below the rest for a second or two and that triggers the error. (The car is still driveable and I get roughly 51 MPG but the error is frustrating...) When I see that the voltage differential is starting to lag noticeably between the blocks, I can usually break to get the voltage back in line... Unsure if indeed Block 6 is bad as 95% of the time it appears that it is indeed in line with rest of the blocks of voltage. If it is indeed Block 6 being bad, is this a set of Modules closer to the drivers side or passenger side that I should swap?

    2. I've purchased the Prolong Charger and Discharger set for $700 and have done 3 cycles of the charge discharge and it smelt like a lot of Sulfar or Oxidation was mixing up the modules and such. Car drives fine and battery seems stronger but still get an error and my OBII sensor says PA080 and possibly Block 6.

    3. I've bought the Techstream software and Mini VCI J2534 but haven't gotten the Techstream drivers for the Mini VCI to work properly on my windows 7 computer... I can spend some time trying to get that working but always says drivers fail. Should I spend more time going this route and trouble-shoot that computer to get the Techstream software working to properly diagnose it....

    4. Last option that I haven't tried yet is to buy the Prolong Load Tester kit (although I already have a Fluke Multimeter) can I build one cheaper with a headlight instead of buying Prolong's $79 kit with parts I already have...

Any advice on what my next step would be would be much appreciated. I don't know if cleaning the bus bars would be adviseable when all the Blocks appear to have the same voltage but for some reason occasionally the voltage on Block 6 appears to drop and than goes back to normal etc...

Thanks for any advice and it is much appreciated!

Do you know if your resident state is a CARB state? You might have a 10yr/150k miles warranty on your battery. You should check with the dealer before trying to save that battery and void your warranty

Yes, I did bring it initially to the dealer and they mentioned that they wanted $3500 to put in a new battery due to the PA080 error code. I live in Washington State and the warranty is only 100,000 miles :( Although car is running good with occasional error message I still get 50+ MPG. I was thinking of maybe trying to change Block 6. (See attached Torque app image...) Although I can mess around and try and get Techstream info working etc...

Since you've already brought it to a dealer, you could call Toyota corporate and ask for a goodwill warranty. They may cover a portion of the repair costs for the new battery. Doesn't hurt to ask
