This is the most "least" descriptive notice I've ever read. Was this written by a Yahoo News contributor?

I would imagine there's about a billion cars that could fall under that "description" of a problem. (FYI there's about a billion in service worldwide)

It does seem to be about the inverter but only to insure that the vehicle goes into failsafe mode rather than completely stalling. It does not appear to change the chances of inverter failing or previous adjustments to (supposedly) reduce the liklihood of failure.

Also, despite announcing the recall, the new software is not actually available yet. Toyota will send notices to those affected (like myself) when it becomes available.

From the notice when I put my vin in the website: "For customer satisfaction, if the vehicle has experienced an inverter failure related to this condition, the inverter assembly will be repaired or replaced prior to the software updates FREE OF CHARGE."

I’ll use the recall fact to recommend buying Honda civic hybrids over Prius.

You’re correct. I believe all inverters will eventually fail as time goes by from the on going inverter recalls, still same year range. It’s just matter of when mine will fail is how I see now.

    Save a life, don’t buy a prius

Seems to me Toyota always plays with the small software problems. How about address the head gasket epidemic and oil burning . Inverter failure will probably happen to all of us if we keep the cars long enough. Not sure I will but another one

Long as it doesn't go limp mode in 75 MPH speeds, double down on it.

    Yep, my CarMax sent this:

    10/04/2018
    Manufacturer Safety recall issued
    NHTSA #Pending
Recall #J1V SAFETY RECALL J1V - INTERIM NOTICE,
CERTAIN 2010-2014 MODEL YEAR PRIUS, CERTAIN
2012-2014 MODEL YEAR PRIUS V, HYBRID SYSTEM
    SOFTWARE UPDATE
    Status: Remedy Not Available
    LEARN MORE

    Description:
The involved vehicles were designed to enter a failsafe driving mode in response to certain hybrid system faults. Toyota has found that in rare situations, the vehicle may not enter a failsafe driving mode as intended. This recall remedy, when available, will address a new condition in the vehicles involved in previous Safety Recalls E0E & F0R. The remedy conducted for E0E & F0R did not anticipate the new condition identified in this recall.

If this occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall. While power steering and braking would remain operational, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash.

    Remedy:
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this condition. When the remedy becomes available, dealers will perform a software update for the hybrid system FREE OF CHARGE. For customer satisfaction, if the vehicle has experienced an inverter failure related to this condition, the inverter assembly will be repaired or replaced prior to the software updates FREE OF CHARGE.

A simple recall is a good way to get people like me who don't use any of their services to go to a dealership.

A lot of people figure while I am there I may as well have other work done. :)

So here is my question. My Prius had the update done, and has had the inverter replaced. Now there is a new “yet to be finalized” repair/update to be done.

Is this just a never ending loop of repair, failure, inadequate repair, failure?

I can’t help but laugh, but at the same time worry about what happens if they “can’t” come up with an adequate repair for the issue??

1998 Camry v6 was when Toyota said not to buy that model anymore because of the unrepairable P0441 cel. After free evap canister for all owners were issued, cel came back on later after owners had a new canister replacement. Toyota said there’s no solution and said to not buy that car anymore and avoid buying it completely.

I owned the exact model years ago with P0441 and saw the announcement searching the www. Hopefully the inverter issue doesn’t come to that conclusion also.
