I have a 2006 Prius that needs a new MFD because it is sun damaged. (This reminds me of how headlights yellow from the sun.) It is too dark to easily read, but everything works. Is there a way to repair the screen? Can the plastic screen be replaced, leaving the rest of the unit intact?

If not, where have you purchased your replacement MFD from? Anyone sell these on their website? Or, who do you recommend on ebay? How mjch should this cost? I would prefer to repair the plastic screen if this can be done since everything works.

But, if I have to buy a used MFD I want to buy it with someone with a sales history on priuschat.com. The 2006 Prius has a backup camera, but no navigation. Can you tell me the part number that I need to get? I already replaced the multimeter and I don't want to take the MFD out again until I make the repair.

I have a 2006 Prius with Package #3. Is the right part number 86110-47081? I can get a used one for $95 to $125 based on the quotes from Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market.

    Thanks, John

Are there any other places where forum members have purchased a used MFD. I know ebay has a lot...but who to buy from?

Have you looked into just purchasing a new touch screen for it? I believe there are members here who have gone that route. We have a semi-local electronics shop that advertises on Craigslist that they replace gen2 Prius touchscreens for $150. You remove it from the car and take it to them. They replace it, test it and give it back.

I'm looking for recommendations on who to contact to buy a replacement. Is there a seller you have used and do you have the contact info?

What model # are you looking for? Does your 2007 have navigation (the 7 button mfd?) or the 4 button?

We purchased a refurb MFD for our first Prius through the dealer. We definitely paid too much but at the time we were still a little intimidated by all the technology and didn't have a good hybrid mechanic to help us out. I'll leave your actual repair recommendations to others but I will highly recommend you invest $35 to protect your "new" MFD with this:

Navigation Screen Sun Visor Hood for 2004-2009 Toyota Prius - PriusChat Shop

It not only helps protect the screen; it makes it MUCH easier to read.

I have the same problem in my 06 Prius Mfd screen, sun faded did you have any luck getting it repaired. I've heard the possibility that the polarized film on the Lcd has been damaged from heat exposure, and watched a few vids on youtube about scraping off old film and re-applying new polarized film. But not sure about your particular screen mine has backup camera, nav and everything works except sun faded screen is hard to see # 86110-47220. Gotta be DIY repair out there in PriusChat :)

I've procrastinated. I'm probably going to buy a replacement on ebay. But, I'd like to see what can be done with replacing the polarized film on the LCD. I have not seen a post on this with the steps of the repair.

If you have a backup camera, it is not the low resolution model number that you posted above. It would be 86110-47230
