    This is an excellent point.
In my case, we have a charger (EVSE technically) right next to the charge port of each car.
The cable is hanging right on the wall, and a button on the end of the charge cable opens the flap on the car’s charge port.
It takes about 5 seconds to plugin or unplug. The charge port door then automatically closes.
As stated, if you have to dig out a bunch of cord, plug it into an inconvenient spot or similar issues, it could be inconvenient.

None of the OEM solutions will allow the car to shift into gear while plugged in, so no worries about driving away with the cord attached.

Wow, I want the automatic port door closure function on may PRIME. I don't know how many times I have disconnected the EVSE and stored away. come back to the car and sit on the car, close the door and START the car, only to see the "charge port door is open" warming on the display. Have to get out the car and close the port door. I've never tried this, but does PRIME let someone to drive away with the port door open?

Plugging in and charging my Prime several times a day is like closing the door on your car or house, and locking up. With the L2 charger right next to the Prime's charging port, it's a 4 second exercise. I would much rather do that, than face all the animals at the gas station and fiddle around for 20 or 30 minutes down there!
I used to have to do this 2 or 3 times a week with economical ICE vehicles; never more!!

On the first generation Plugin, the plug cap was built into the charger door, so there was nothing to do: shut the charger door, and the plug cap was set. Then they went backwards with a separate plug on the Prime.

Not a pain at all. I would rather plug in than stand at a gas pump filling up. I have a set up at home so all I have to do is grab the charging cord hanging there and bam...it is charging.

Or as it is I NJ, waiting for the gas jockey to come over (hopefully putting down his cigarette and cellphone), figure out what you want and then, start to put the gas in at the high speed setting (having it click off 4 or 5 times until he sets it at a slower speed). In the mean time gas is spilling over the side of your car while he's setting someone else up.

I use an L1 charger an am afraid of my outlet exploding (past experiences) so I have to plug the plugin the wall then plug it into the car so I find its a bit of a drag to plug it into the wall as its like its kinda hard cause I have to lean over the car and plug it in. But when I'm at an L2 station its a pleasure to plug it in as I know I'm not adding gas:ROFLMAO:

If I only had another 10k saved up, I would have the Tesla M3 in my driveway, not the Prius. Have to start saving again, and wait 5 years. Oh well.

You're not going to be able to buy a new Tesla M3 for $10k more than your Prime Premium right now. How long has the M3 been out and how many have they sold and there's still no $35,000 car yet?

With the standard plug I think it will be a bit of a pain to deal with the cords and such... but if I invest in a L2 it will be extremely close to the vehicle and not be a problem at all.

It all depends on your set up. If you make it easy for yourself with a plug close at hand, it's easy. If you have to drag cords to get it done, not so easy.

Even if you don't plug it in often, or ever, the Prime is a better hybrid due to its larger battery.

Have you spoken with many Tesla owners? My wife's cousin had a Model S. Really liked it. Dumped it because it was such a long wait to get service. Things like brakes and window motors were not easy to get fixed. No one else will work on Teslas, and the company did not ramp up service as they increased sales. It's gotta be worse now with the Model 3s coming out. A friend of the cousin bought a top-dollar new Model S. In two weeks the wiz-bang electronic door handle failed. He had to crawl across the console to get in & out. 2 week old car, and they gave him a repair appointment 4-1/2 weeks out. He sold it for a big loss. Cousin had the problem of trading in the Tesla. The Porsche dealer wouldn't take it. He traded it to an BMW dealer that he knew. If (when) Tesla goes bust, no one is making parts nor knows how to repair them, they'll be real white elephants. Tesla will go broke when investors lose faith in Musk and stop lending him money.

When I see a Model 3 on the road for think of an Amphicar. Something about the looks....

This is the main reason I decided on a L2 charger. I have a car port and was concerned about someone stealing the plug in charger, it was a pain to plug/un-plug from the wall every time. I knew at some point I would get tired of it and get out of the habit of plugging in, not to mention the wear and tear on the wall socket. For me it was money well spent as it takes just seconds to plug in now, and I've found the shorter charge time to come in handy.

Well it was actually more of a pain (if you want to call it that) when I used the car's charging cable. But I didn't really mind it. I'm lucky and I have an L2 charger at my office and one at home. So it's just habit to plug in the cars when I get home. My other family car is a Bolt so we have to sometimes swap them when one or the other is done charging.

I plug in about 4X per week as I do not have to work every day. But since car is garage kept at home, no worries plugging in. I have a 70 plus mile commute 4 days a week round trip. So not having to use gas in the spring/summer one way has really helped on mpg. So far this fall I have been losing 10 miles of range so that will continue to drop as temps keep falling here in the northeast. I have been averaging close to 1000 miles between fill-ups and it costs less than $30 to fill up anyway. Beats the crap out of my SUV which needed premium gas every 4 days or so!

It's a bit of a pain for me. I park outside and when it's raining, snowing or cold, you really want to just hoof it into the house. Instead, you have run to get the cord, run back out, plug it in (hoping that all those safety features on the charger work) and then go back into the car, get the stuff you want to bring in and then you're done.

It'd be so much easier to just grab the stuff to go in and... go in. :)

It's as big a pain as you choose to make it. It you get yourself a level 2 charger and locate it conveniently close to where you park your car, it is not a pain at all. It is certainly less of a pain than driving to the gas station, and paying money while waiting in the cold for the tank to fill up, breathing poisonous fumes all the while.

    Come on...
    Pain to Plug In?
    That's a 1st world problem.

Trust me, if I had the resources and environment that allowed me to own and operate a plug in vehicle?
Well, plugging it in...would be a pain I'd love to have.

Seems to me the benefits of owning a Plug In far outweigh having to plug it in.

Not at all. It has become a habit. Eight o'clock comes with free electricity and I plug in. Didn't want to fiddle with the programming feature. My wife plugs her Leaf in once a week. No problem there either.
