Very strange message on the screen while I was driving yesterday, my 2018 Prius Prime Advanced. It said "Please Take a Break" with a picture of a cup of coffee. Not only on the screen, but on the Heads Up Display as well. Once it went on, it remained there for the remainder of my drive.

Had I been driving nonstop for hours, so it thought I needed a rest break? No, not at all. I had been driving only about 20 minutes when that sign came on, and it remained until I reached my destination, about 40 minutes more.

Weird, no? What was that about? Has anyone else encountered that?

Did it look in my eyes (through sunglasses ;-) ) and conclude that I looked sleepy? "Big Brother is Watching You".

    Weird.

I believe it has to do with the lane departure system. If you swerve too often it thinks you are falling asleep and gives you the coffee cup idiot light. I don't have access to the manual at the moment but I'm sure someone can post a page number or quote about how to reduce the sensitivity of the coffee alert.

Just hit the return symbol on you steering wheel and it will go away. Or change the screen to something else.

And, the icon for it is right on the message itself. *facepalm* You can dismiss pretty much all of the messages that come up on that screen.

I leave the lane departure system off because I hug the right side of the road on two way roads, it was always bothersome.
Recently that warning came up anyway, sinsiter electronics.

And to restate, hit the return button, round, on the bottom right side of the steering wheel.

I haven't seen this alert yet. I wonder if it might come on if you get the "Hold steering wheel" warning too often? Some cars monitor how often you make tiny steering corrections, and if that's too low it suggests that you take a break. Our cars can measure that because if you don't move the wheel for about 30 seconds you'll get a "hold steering wheel" alert, but I don't know if they use that information to trigger the coffee alert?

It shows your car cares about you. Wait until it is your birthday.
The car kept playing happy birthday over and over and over again and again.

picture similar to that, words exactly as I described. Happened again a couple days ago, after only 5 minutes of driving. Silly.

My as yet unfinished project is to place a latte machine in the spot of that almost useless rear seat storage box in the middle. That way when the "Take a Break" warning comes up I can just reach back and refill my cup.
