Ah, I take that back: it does have a "ready" light but it was off in this mode, so I didn't see it.

Actually it's the third mode listed on page 326 "On mode". All three modes listed on page 326 are cycled through with your foot off the brake pedal.

I was having the same problem with the car shutting down after only a minute.
That’s because I keep putting it in READY mode.
Just press the Start button once, no foot on the break, to put it in Accessory mode only. Then you will have 20 minutes to set things up before it times out instead of only 1 minute.

I'm pretty sure you meant to say that you were in ON mode when the system was shutting off after one minute, not READY mode. READY is the mode that is used for driving, identified by the word "READY" on the dash. If the word "READY" does not appear then you are either in ACC or ON mode, both of which will eventually shut-off if you stay in either of these two modes for a length of time without switching to READY mode. Although as mentioned in this (year-old) thread and I think in another similar thread, some people experience that the system shuts off earlier in ON mode than what the manual states. So you are correct you could solve that by using ACC mode (no brake, press power button once) instead of ON mode (no brake, press power button twice. You can also solve it by using READY mode (step on brake and press power button once). The difference is that in ACC or ON mode you are draining the 12V battery, whereas in READY mode you are draining the traction battery. If it's just for a few minutes it doesn't make much difference, but if you will be fiddling with things for any length of time it would probably be better to use READY mode to avoid putting a strain on the 12V.

I made the error to call the Power button the Start button. Still learning.

So sorry, I’m still too new and it’s my wife’s car but I wish it were mine.
I did have it in READY mode while trying to change my settings which was my error. It said READY on my display. That’s why it shut down too soon to conserve the battery. Accessory only mode stays on longer for me in my case on my vehicle.

READY mode should stay on until you shut it off or run out of gas.
There are people who camp in their cars overnight in READY mode.

    That's correct.

Accessory mode while plugged in - stays on for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes (this is a bug, in my opinion).
Accessory mode while not plugged in - stays on longer though I've never seen it stay on for 20 minutes like the manual says.
Ready mode - stays on until the car is out of energy (this can be days) or until shut off by the user.

I'm starting to wonder if by "shut down" you are referring to the gasoline engine turning off? If so that would explain the confusion. It's normal for the gasoline engine to turn off when you are stopped, but that's to save gas, not electricity. You will still be in READY mode when the engine is off and everything will still be functioning.

If however by shut down you are referring to the electrical system and the information displays on the dash, if you are saying that this all shuts off after a few minutes even though READY is displayed on the dash, then either you have a defective car or you are not remembering correctly what mode you were in when you were changing settings. As others have mentioned when READY is displayed on the dash the system will function until you run out of both gas and electricity which would normally take days depending on how much power is being used by the climate control system.
