ABS and Break light on after replace rotor

    Hello Everyone
    My 2005 Prius has 197K miles, I have the ABS and Break light on, the ABS system does not work after I replaced the front pads, one rotor on the driver side from the Autozone, and rear break. Would someone help me what to check and where the ABS sensors are and how to measure with Volt meter? Thank you for all of your input.

    I had this problem when the mechanic did not push the sensor all the way down on the post (according to him). It was like driving with very little power assist on the brakes.

    Did you pull the brake relays or neg battery terminal before doing the brakes?

    You can try taking a paper clip and jumping #4 and #13 on the OBD port. There are threads on here for that.

    I checked the sensor but did not see anything broken. When I used the C Clamp to push the break cylinder in, I was wondering why the cylinder went too far out, until now my daughter told me that she went inside pressed the break pedal to check the break light when the pads are out (i went to buy the pads and asked her to watch her car). Now I recalled I did not see any leak! But I think the air went in the break fluid system. Unfortunately, I dont think the Prius break fluid can be flushed out like the other cars. I bought the Techstream software and cable few years ago from Ebay, It no longer work. I called the dealer, they said the cost is $215 just for diagnose!. My daughter is a student she doesn't have money. Please help

    No, i did not unplug the battery. Yes I did short out the pins on the OBD

    OH NO!

    I will go out on a limb (do not have to go far either) and say that when the brakes were replaced they did NOT open the bleeder screws to allow that nasty old contaminated brake fluid to escape as the pistons were pushed back into their bores. Presuming that is true, it is not only possible but likely at this age, that all manner contamination was forced backwards thru the brake module (not computer, but power module). Doing so can cause failure of that component as it was never designed to have "dirt" inside of it.

    This is a common, yet sloppy, mistake that most often causes no problem; but every once-in-a-while.... WHAMO.

    Get the faults read (techstream or dealer) and let's hope I am wrong.

    I had the same issue initially after replacing my front brake pads. On some full stop tests in my condo's parking lot, the car was pulling to one side. Solution was just to pump the brakes vigorously another 20-30 times and clear the codes. After that there was no problem. I just hadn't pumped the brakes enough after replacing the pads to push the cylinders out again and so the brake system was detecting it. Try this first. If this doesn't help, your next step is to read the codes on your car with a code reader that can read Toyota specific codes and Google it (Look into getting a mini-VCI cable with Techstream - best solution if you have a laptop, can be found under $20).
