Why my mpg does not match promised values?

I will trade you my Gen4, for your red Mazda SUV.

FWIW I get about 42 mpg on my CT200h F Sport. w/ non eco tires and stock F Sport wheels.

on the very low end 38. this is per the car's built in tank average readout. Current tank about 42.8 mpg. i'm happy with that.

60 mile trip all highway, I can get 50mpg on the readout. Which translates to about 48.5 actual.

As said though, short trips, or a lot of stop and go will eat your gas. takes a lot of energy to take a 3,000+ lb object from a standstill to speed.

 

After 15,000 miles mileage, the combined city/highway sometime displays 78 mpg , I am seeing EV mode upto 70-75mph. In ECO mode prius - 4 Touring.

I remember Consumers Report saying the Gen 4 Prius will only run in EV mode till 25 mph, I just laughed.
I wonder if they have any experienced Prius owners?

 

i recently purchased a new 2018 Prius 4 and now with 300 miles on the ODO i am getting 64 mpg with mostly city driving and some highway miles at 75-80 mph. my previous hybrids were 2010 Prius 3, 2011 Prius 2, 2016 Avalon Hybrid, 2017 Highlander Hybrid. loving the gas milage on the 2018 Prius 4, with very little effort i am able to maintain 64'ish mpg.

 

As far as gas mileage, mine seems to be really outside temperature sensitive. I was consistently getting mid 60's MPG in the summer and fall until the temperatures required the use of the heater. At that point I was getting mid to upper 50's. Now that we've had a warming spell in Northeast Ohio for the last few days, I've been getting back in the mid 60's again.

 

I think 4th Gen pushes the envelope a lot further in good weather. When temps drop you rejoin the earlier Gen rabble.

 

Yup. Heat is energy. It has to come from somewhere. In a car, it comes from gas unless you make the trip in a plug in without having to start the ICE.

 

Li-ION batteries seem more sensitive to cold.

The heater uses petrol, not Hybrid Battery, it can't heat any other way in PRIUS. But A/C uses Hybrid Battery (only) - but is subject to the gains of regenerative braking.

The other alternative is to rug up on cold days - but that's not how we do it these days.

 

Hmmm, it's 30 deg, 83% humidity and drizzling - I just broke into a hot sweat thinking about Heated seats.

PS - it's nicer inside the house with A/C on.

 

It always seems to me Aussies get short shrift, having Christmas during their summer.
