I don't have the receipt with me but I could have sworn they had a restocking fee so it may not be worth it.

It is likely to have a restocking fee, although, again I would advicate against it for many reasons.

Unfortunately I it was too late for me to talk last night but can talk today as soon as you can call.

Edit: can you also text me (or post) a couple more shots of the pack. Thanks. Part # and a farther away shot of it in the box.

Rica8158 gave me a call, sent some pics, and brought me up to speed.

He gave me the dealer name and phone number and I talked to Jason in the parts department.

Turns out that the dealer, in general is mainly just worried about cores that come back in improper condition. (Missing or loose nuts/bolts, exposed wires or battery postr, etc)

Then agreed that the top of the case must come off in order to to the job.

In my opinion it sounds like folks other than the parts department got involved in the conversation previously, after the part was sold, and perhaps misspoke. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I was assured it is no problem removing the lid. They want the pack back in proper condition. I explained that the nuts and bolts would be on it, no missing components. Positive and negative cables removed. Fuse holder removed. 2 rubber mats over the modules. Wire harness connector wrapped and taped. Cover on. VIN, model, and mileage clearly affixed to case.

So now Rica will not have to have the car towed to the dealer, nor have to pay the $800 installation fee.

    Hybrid Battery Hero indeed!

After much hunting, I just found a somewhat local dealer (about 65 miles outside of DC) willing to sell me a new gen2 battery. Will be doing the swap myself this weekend. Any chance someone has a full walkthrough video of this?

I doubt there is any video but several of our trusted experts, including the aforementioned Hybrid Hero are here to help/
I am not sure what dealer you are using. I have been very pleased with Miller Toyota in Manassas, even though I live 150 miles away.

I am sure there are official instructions available on Toyota TechInfo.

I live in Alexandria/Springfield. Every dealer either told me they wouldn't sell it to me, or simply didn't respond to my online requests. I ended up ordering it from DARCARS Toyota in Frederick. Have to drive to pick it up Friday.

Can you share the price? (Before tax)

Sidenote, too bad Rica never checked back in.
Would have been nice to have some follow up.
Glad I took the time to at least add my update to his story.

They had it listed on their site at $1,657.50, with a $149 shipping fee (no tax since I'm in another state). I ordered it with shipping, then someone contacted me to say they couldn't ship it but I could come pick it up and they'd remove the shipping charge (and hopefully forget to charge me the 6% tax).

I checked back in on their site today and they have it listed at $1,408.88 for a Black Friday extra 15% off sale! I just emailed to ask for an adjustment :)

    That is a bargain.
I have not seen anyone ship a pack for a long time.
Even if they did it would be very expensive.

Pretty hard to avoid sales tax when it is an in-person sale to an end-customer.

Right. But I had already paid for the order through their site. Figured it's much easier to simply remove the shipping charge than to then also add tax. Anyway, I no longer care about the tax if they knock off another $250!

Doubt you, or they, would get caught even if they decide not to charge the tax. It's just one transaction in hundreds they do a day.

After telling me to reorder at the lower price (which I did), they then told me they couldn't honor the $1409 price. Too good to be true. Oh well, $1660 is still a great deal on a new battery.

Picking up tomorrow and hoping for a smooth install! I'll take lots of pictures of the swap.

Battery swap went as good as one could hope. All dash warning lights are gone, and everything seems to be back to norma!

I spent about 4 hours on it, taking pictures along the way of each step of the new battery setup / ECU swap, and being probably 10x more cautious than necessary.

I'll put the pics together tomorrow and post back at my original thread.

Did you take time to properly tighten the battery connections with an inch-pound torque wrench?
    GuesssGu is not good enough.

There was another recent story of a guy who didn't and the nuts in the battery loosened up 4 months later.

Better to do it the right way now than to risk damaging things.

If it hasn't been mentioned already maybe the safest thing to do as far as your core charge and safety is to take both batteries to the dealer and let them set up the new battery so it is ready to install. It would be a bench job and wouldn't take long for someone that is trained to do it. This way you will have more confidence it is done right.

Dealer is not likely to do that. Responsibility gets muddled.

They don't want to be held responsible for what happens after they turn it back over to you.

Even if they assemble it, the customer still has to make the final high voltage connections in the car. If those are done wrong (for instance, customer simply guesses how tight the connections should be) fire or other damge can still occurr. Then it becomes a struggle to determine who is at fault since both the customer and he dealer where working with the pack.

So you are saying he shouldn't do any of the work?

I think he is saying make sure to use a torque wrench and tighten everything according to the manual.

Coming back to this, can someone provide proper torque for each piece that requires it? I've been running for 2 weeks without issue, but certainly would rather pull it all apart again and make sure it's done correctly.
