I though about modifying mine, but I wanted to wait until my warranty expired and to see what was done for the recall.

Agree - they'll do anything to have the warranty voided. "Doing it your way" could also render the vehicle in contravention to the terms of the RECALL - ie unregisterable, particularly if TOYOTA refuses to do the recall if it's been tampered with.

Unless those bridal gowns are spending lots of time in an engine compartment I'd be more concerned with the functional effect of that wrapping.

I've done my time in customer support and my bet is that people with no technical knowledge nor interest complained about the looks of this recall job, so Toyota appeased them with this followup recall notice to shut them up. I'm betting it has no functional impact, it's just to look pretty so that people quit whining about its looks.

I'm more interested in whether my car will blow up in a big ball of fire or something than how the harness looks--especially when I won't be looking at it 99% of the time.

I agree. But. When you go to sell a car, and they open the bonnet and see some shoddy workmanship, particularly on a fairly new car, they will be suspicious, possibly losing the sale.

I got this recall notification in the mail last week here in Finland
It's for Toyota C-HR, Prius and Prius Plugin.

30 minute job, I'm taking my car there on monday so I'll let you guys know if they wrap both wires or just the right one.

    Yup. They wrapped them both.

    NHTSA defect information report
    safety recall 18V-579 (J0T)

"Prius vehicles manufactured on or after May 16, 2018 have a protective sleeve on the engine wire harness connected to the PCU. "
Protective sleeves on both the LH (drivers side) and RH (passengers side) wire harnesses
Protective sleeves not visible to the eye

The abrasion resistant tape to the RH (pass side) update still for "consistent appearance"?
What about the owners that had the remedy completed before the updated instruction to wrap the RH (pass side) harnesses?

My dealer said to come back and they will check & wrap the other side. Corporate said another closer dealer could not do it because the recall was marked as complete.

Looks like when the dealer did mine on the 16th only the driver's side was done. And, even the driver's side looks like it was only partially wrapped. The passenger side wiring looks like it already has some kind of abrasion mark on the top. prius_wiring_fix.jpg

Exactly the same as our 2Gen 4s.

UlrtaJet you said "Exactly the same as our 2Gen 4s."

Do you mean you had the recall done on a couple gen 4 Prius and when you checked the passenger side (RH) wire harness is wearing?

Oh no, sorry. I meant that we had a couple of Gen 4s checked, and they both were OK but only had the LH (driver's side) wire harness wrapped.

On a follow up, I did notice that on mine the RH (passenger's side) harness was pressing into the cover above it, exactly like dbf's post (#29).

Well, I just brought mine in for its 12-month service. I brought up the updated recall and they said it wasn't in their system, so they couldn't do anything about it, but I should hear from Toyota in the future.

It's a little disappointing, but I really didn't want to argue with them. I'm considering just wrapping it myself. Or, is that a bad idea since they technically haven't inspected it? If I bring it back in when I finally do get the recall notice and they see it wrapped, am I entering into 'voiding the warranty' territory? I received a notice in the mail for the initial J0T recall months after I heard about it on here.

Bad idea. It's actually a legislated matter. The car is actually "banned" from being sold till it's done properly, I believe (at least in USA). And if you fiddle with it, it won't be registered as having been done, and if they see what you've done, they could well refuse to do it FREE - and register it.

You could always tape it up yourself in the meantime and remove it when you take it in for the service.

I just got my second side taped today. Toyota did not issue a new recall so if you have one side taped, they show it as completed. Here is what worked for me.

I called Toyota Corporate. I wanted to know if I could get the second side taped by a local dealer instead of the one 150 miles away. They said it could be updated by the dealer that originally did the recall. They must have called the dealer service manager.

The service manager called me and I described the situation. He said he had the (correctly dated) recall notice and I was incorrect. After we hung up, he talked to his master technician hat did the recall who educated him on the changes. The manager called me back and said to drop in anytime and they would work on the other side of the harness.

My bill says "Completed second phase of J0T recall" with 0 hours..

I wouldn't risk doing it - the tape is quite expensive for a start.

No I mean to tape it with something cheap and can hold up well in the meantime. Basically a bandage on it till you can get it done at the dealership.

I was thinking of using gorilla tape or something similar.

Then they refuse because it has been tampered with?

I actually bought the tape after the initial recall, just to see what it's like. It came in a 25-m roll. I think it was something like US$8.

I will probably give Toyota corporate a call and see if they can contact my local dealer.
