May I ask where you got that deal at? Best I’ve found recently was $27,100 out the door.

The extra $500 rebate was supposed to end today (26th Nov) in the NE region, But seems like Toyota has extended this for another week. Got this info from a couple of dealers.
So the Rebate is $3500 in NE region till at least Dec 3rd.
I am inclined to say, Toyota will either increase this or keep it constant for the Next Month. Will be posting the inventory details on 30th Nov.

 

Is it smart to buy a new 25K car if you make 41K a year?

 

Instead of asking here, you should look at your 2017 tax form and this years imcome checks, or ask a tax expert.

But, if you need a small car, and you can charge at lower rate, then a prius prime with full tax credit and possible state incentive would be great for you if you can get at least $4000 discount from dealer. It net cost is close to a Corolla. Just be sure you get the $4500 back.

 

No one in this forum get the car for 25k unless it is advance model.

CA price VS Rest of the country

After reading the thread a little, it seems that OTD price in CA is higher than the rest of the country.

Any suggestions and how anyone got some of the great prices (like 24-25k OTD for Plus trim)?

Best I got so far from So Cal was 27-28k OTD for Plus trim

Me and my friend have been researching for a price for the last two months and here is the best pricing we found till date:

1. Plus trim: Discount of up to $4200 in addition to the $3500 toyota rebate.
2. Premium Trim: Discount of up to $4320 in addition to the $3500 toyota rebate.
3. Advanced trim: Discount in the $4400-$4500 range in addition to the $3500 toyota rebate.

Dealers offering this pricing: Westboro, DCH and Prime Rt 2.
Notes:
Prime rt 2 was the first one to put out aggressive pricing upfront (i.e without any negotiations) and was not willing to further negotiate from their quoted price. During Thanksgiving weekend, they also offered a Free remote starter. No wonder they sold out all their Plus and Premium trims over the Thanksgiving weekend. They have a couple of Red premium models left.

The other two dealers (DCH and Westboro) did not quote aggressive pricing upfront, but were willing to agree to the above prices after a couple of negotiation rounds.
Westboro has a higher doc and processing fee (Most dealers go for $495 Doc fee in MA area, westboro takes a hundred more)- they offer an additional year of free service (2+1 year extra free of cost) ; Also Westboro claims its employees are not commission based but salary based- so no pressure selling tactics.

I am planning to buy before Nov End , My friend is willing to wait till December to see if the Toyota rebates increase to $4000.


TLDR:
Best Pricing in New England region as on 29th Nov 18:
Plus trim- $7700 off MSRP
Prem Trim - $7820 off MSRP
ADV trim - $8000 off MSRP

In Philadelphia suburbs, picked up a Prime Plus for 23483 after mfg rebate of 3000. PA sales tax of 6% was 1408.98. Other fees including 141 "documentary fee" totaled 287.55. Total price out the door 25179. Later will get the roughly 4500 tax credit, 750 rebate from state of PA, plus 50 from the electric company. I didn't try to bargain - just price shopped over internet, and picked lowest (which was almost 1000 less than what another dealer further away claimed was the best they could do). Most local dealers had no Prime inventory at all, mine was brought in from another dealer, so I figured in this region it might be a waste to try to haggle too much.

 

Don't be so smart since you don't know his situation. He could have the cash saved up to buy it. Or he buys a new car and keeps it for 15-20 years. This is car forum, not a financial advice forum.

 

i'm looking to purchase a prime plus from a dealership in the NE region What price before TTL should I target?
I got a quote for $22K before taxes and fees is this a good price?
MSRP of 28.3K-7.7K would make my ideal target < $21K?

 

The best Quote I got for the Plus was from Westboro Toyota $7700 off MSRP (give or take $50). Ditto with DCH. During negotiation I said I don't prefer any color and I am looking for the cheapest price. Your bargaining power might go down a bit if you start specifying your preferences up front.

Some other dealers might price it a bit higher (Like $400 higher) but are willing to thrown in freebies like remote starters for their end of Month Push.

 

I basically told them i didnt care for color and wanted the 28.3K MSRP vehicle. Since this transaction wont count for Nov sales, I probably wont get the best discounts.

Westboro got me $22K and DCH got me $21.4K
I am waiting on quotes from most of the dealers from the list above. I think DCH is going to get me the best price.

If you got -$7,700, it sounds like I have room for another $700. When i pushed back on pricing he wasn't willing to go lower.
Should I wait til Dec 4? The sales guy didn't think the incentives will get pulled back and he said they were not selling as well in the NE region.

 

Yeah I was able to squeeze in that price as I clearly told them I would be buying before month-end.

In case you are not planning to buy before 3rd December, they might not give you that extra discount. you might have to try again during last week of december to get similar bargaining power.

Regarding Toyota rebates, yeah, Dec might hold up the $3500 rebate..or it may go up to $4000. Infact the rebates on the 2017 model went all the way up to $5000 in New York area.

 

Which DCH got you to $21,400? That was for a Prime Plus, out the door?! That figured does not include the $4,502 federal tax liability, correct?
