Easily testable with a quality scan tool by checking Mass air Flow rates under full acceleration and comparing to a similar car.

Generally speaking, if the "cat" does not rattle or sound like there is a metal ball banging around inside it when tapped with a dead-blow hammer, they are not restricting flow enough to "matter". I have, on multiple occasions, removed the upstream O2 sensor and installed a compression test adapter (they use the same sparkplug thread) and measured backpressure to confirm it is within manufacturer specifications. The big problem with that is, what are the specifications for a G2 Prius? I have never found them.

    Thank you JohnG
I should look elsewhere for the engine being under powered, like spark plugs ...
This motor has the intake from the original motor because I cleaned the MAF, throttle body, intake chamber and air filter.
I have no codes, but it has the original NGK Iridium plugs in it, they even across all 4 with a light tan color and the spark plug pin and electrode landing site for the spark were very similar. This is typical of the plugs.

Hard to tell exactly, but those gaps look really wide.

… which should be 1.0 to 1.1 mm. If any doubt, replace the spark plugs using the correct iridium spark plugs from NGK or Denso.

If the engine was at or over 100k, I’d put new plugs in it and wash my hands of it.
