I was waiting for the rebate to increase and also end of year sales push. Sadly NJ's customer cash remained $4K. When did the 2017 get $5K rebate? I know back in May 2018 the 2017 prime had $5K cash in Greater NY region but I don't know when it became $5K (April or March '18?). Wonder if it's worth waiting till next year or just go for it later in the month in NJ or PA/DE. Anyone knows good PA/DE dealers that give good dealer discounts? Are PA discounts better than NJ's usually? I bought from only NJ dealers before. Thanks!

After the paltry rebates on my coast last year, I'm quite happy to see them up to $3k in the Pacific Northwest now.

But still waffling over cargo space & volume, and the spare tire.

same here. i could pick one up right now for $5,500. with my trade before ttl, but those issues still haunt me.
and the fact that i would have to burn gas intentionally now and then because the ev range is more than i need

I'd still be planing to burn 150-200 gallons a year with it, but could get by many more days with no gasoline at all. And soak up all my surplus home solar capacity that only half benefits me now, and would soon become a total freebie for the utility.

Yesterday I notarized and overnighted a contract to Prime Boston, picking up next week, for $23,124* (under $25k out the door). Before Dec 3, I had locked this price in with a $500 deposit, in case incentives dropped. I took a risk but they didn't change for New England. Flying up next weekend to collect the car.

*I got an additional $750 military rebate but the above price is without the rebate since most people aren't eligible.

Before incentives changed, I priced Prime Premium with Lia Toyota in Rockland NY and Jim Coleman in Bethesda, MD (where I got my 2017 Prime Premium in Nov 2016) as well as DCH after I read your thread. Based on the prices below, even with the higher incentives in NY and Central Atlantic, Prime Boston had the best price (this assumes the dealers won't discount more this week than they would last week).

(All prices before $1.5-2k TTL +freight and don't include military rebate)

DCH wouldn't go below 23,294, even after I told them Prime Boston had them beat by several hundred.
    Lia was over $25.5k
    Jim Coleman was $25.6k
    Balise Warwick was $24,921.

I believe Lia Toyota has ~100 Primes in stock so maybe they'll let you negotiate.

I've gotten DCH Milford to just under $23,400 out the door for a Prime Plus. Waiting for this snowpocalypse to subside from my area of NC before I finalize my decision.

Thanks for this info jmarkd7. I am guessing this pricing is for the Premium trim. Would you mind sharing the MSRP of this vehicle. Curious to know the dealer discount offered by Prime Boston. They did not offer us the best prices (or even a price match when we brought in competitor quotes) when we were searching around last month. They just said "we are located in Boston, and so we have higher operating costs and cannot sell the vehicle at such low prices."

Going by what happened with Toyota incentives for last year, the rebates either remain constant or go up. they do not go down.
Just look at the rebates for the 2017 Prius Prime . Rebates just kept increasing every 2 months or so, from July 2017 till May this year. By May 18, Most of the 2017 inventory got sold , so rebates or no rebates didn't matter after that.

Discounts offered by dealers might go higher in the second half of December, more so in the last week(and they may throw in some freebies). I am guessing Toyota Might increase the cash rebate midway through December (at least in some regions). They did increase during the second half of Nov (Thanksgiving offer) for the NE region.

To get a good price at DCH, you need to negotiate with competitor quotes/prices but you need to visit the showroom and talk to the Finance manager there. Emailing competitor's prices doesn't yield results at DCH.

We did enquire at Balise too. Balise wasn't willing to offer super low prices like they did last year. After multiple queries, they revealed that they offered very low prices last year as they had huge inventory on hand and had to get clear them off their lot (hence the ultra low price at Balise for the 2017 Model) . This year , they managed their inventories well and they are not under pressure to sell. so no huge discounts there, just the regular discounts.

Lia has got multiple dealerships in the region (in NY and MA). so their 100 Primes is a total of all four dealerships.

In fact some of the dealers (in that top 10 dealers with prius Prime Inventory) were clearly telling us that they will not be able to sell the cars at such low prices. Some of them went to the extent to say "if we do not sell many Prius Primes in New England, we will put them on a truck and ship them off to California to our sister dealerships. Prius primes have got much higher demand there, so we are not in any rush to offer deep discounted prices"

They also mentioned that December would see an uptick in sales as many buyers would want to lock in their tax rebates for the year.

what was the dealer discount at DCH? I am pretty sure you will have scope to bring up the dealer discount to $4200 at DCH for the Plus trim.

    Rest was rebates.

Good info reddie, thanks. I bet if gas is still low at the end of December you can get even better deals. I paid ~$29,500 for my previous Prime so I feel like this is huge savings and karma paying me back after I just had to be an early adopter (and pay the premium for doing so).

On the down side, I had to finance through Toyota and it’s 4.29%. Finance manager said you have to keep the loan six months before paying off or you owe the rebate amount. I left him a VM today asking if I can make a one time payment of $20k, and then make the monthly payment until the six months is up. I figure I can beat that by a point or two with a CU or USAA.

Anyone have experience with paying off their Toyota loan early, or paying it down as described above?

The Best offer made to our group by Prime Boston was $4000 discount (it was made to one of my friends, not me). This was for an advanced trim. When we asked them if they could match the $4500 we got from their sister dealership(Prime Toyota rt 2), the finance manager started talking about higher operations cost in the city. Infact he suggested we should ask the other dealership to request for an inter-dealer swap/exchange. We did try that, but the guys at Prime rt 2 said they cannot offer $4500 discount if a swap with another dealer is involved.

I called up Toyota financial to check if I can payoff my loan ASAP.( I got a 4.99%. loan offer with graduate rebate).this is what the customer service rep told me - The dealership can take up to 15 days to get all the documents together and courier them to TFS, but once TFS get your docs and sets up the account, the loan outstanding can be paid immediately without any penalties. The rebates are not affected by early repayment. You may want to call them and re-check on this info. The wait time on the customer service number is not more than a couple of minutes.

I guess the best approach is to wait for the first monthly loan statement and then repay/refinance the loan.

Oooh...good stuff. I will do that. It does seem like it'd be tough for Toyota to recoup a rebate if you've paid it off, although I guess they could keep the title. I'll check and double-check with a couple reps.

    Thanks for all the intel!

This is exactly what I did. I financed the car and took the $1500 cash back instead of the 0.9% interest. A couple of days later I called Toyota Financial to get the account number and paid off the entire loan. If anyone's curious about the math, I had two choices:

    Code:
FINANCE AT 0.9% FINANCE AT 5.5%
    Price: $25,270.12 Price: $25,270.12
    Cash Back: $ 0.00 Cash Back: -$ 1,500.00
    TTL: $ 2,463.38 TTL: $ 2,463.38
    Payoff: $27,733.50 Payoff: $26,233.50
Payments Total: $28,372.58 Payments Total: $30,065.42

So, being a cheapskate and able, I chose the option with the smallest dollar amount. The analysis was actually more detailed because I had to see if keeping the principal in a CD and paying the payments would net more at the end, but alas it did not. I did have to pay $59.28 in interest that accrued between the contract date and the time Toyota received and processed my payoff.

Got my car from Capitol Toyota. $26.7k OTD based on msrp of 28.3k for the prime plus.
After CA, fed and pg&e my net will be $20.2k

They wouldn't match my lower quote of 26,541 from a dealer that was in Central Cali.

My time is worth the $160 difference thus....

The third lowest quotequ got was $27,0xx in so cal.

Lmk if anyone wants the $26.5k car located in central CA.
