I am hesitant to use the plastic painted body side moldings because they will chip with impact and eventually show signs of wear and damage.

I found these 5/16" thick black rubber body side moldings below at AutoAmenity.com, and think they might look OK on our Magnetic Grey, but wonder if anyone has tried anything like this, and how it has held up? Do the rubber bumper moldings sound like a good idea as well?

What are other people's experiences with other types of moldings?

2 things, nothing to do with your post topic.

    1) Love the avatar. Is that a scaled down version of bigdaddy's avatar photo-mosaic picture? Looks good.

    2) I tried saying "rubber body side bumper moldings" 10 times fast and couldn't do it.

As for the topic, I think what you've shown looks good, would like to see it on a prius.

I saw a black side molding on a silver Prius and it looked just terrible !!!! But Magnetic grey might just be OK. The white side molding on my white Jetta still looks perfect after 6 years and lots of attacks by the idiots in these parts !!!!!

Thanks, I scanned the mosaic Start Button picture from the Prius Chat calendar, and resized it, with a few guilt pangs for using somebody else's (apparently your) magnificent work.

I tried to say that phrase too, and crashed at three times. :)

I agree with the general opinion that it looks bad on a silver car, but on Magnetic Grey maybe ????

I put black side moulding on my silver 2006 (per someone's comment on this site), and I have got nothing but compliments from those checking it out. I think it adds some needed contrast to the silver (my Prius also came with a black pin stripe). I also added the dark bug deflector and the black rear bumper guard (even though I added the clear bra on the bumper); I just liked the contrast of all of these items. I may even add some black mirror bras.

    Different strokes for different folks!

I added wider black moldings to the corners of my driftwood, got some positive, some negative comments. Unfortunately where I park drivers side sees heavy sun and foam tape backing came off the rubber after a few months of summer sun - only on one side. Replacement did the same thing. Should use my car cover more.

I've had Sportwing (see sportwing.com) in Cleveland do custom painted molding for my 04 Element. They matched my paint perfectly and it has held up great for three years. No molding was sized for the element but we'd found the molding made for a Civic worked great.
