Newbie looking for some advice

    Hello all,

    This is my first post so please be gentle :)

    Bought my first Prius a couple of days ago for the wife as she really likes the look and its auto.
    Popped up on ebay last week, seller who was a doctor had owned it for past 10 years and always used Toyota for any work apart from its last service and mot which was at a local garage

    It's a 2005 T spirit model and in fairly good condition considering it has covered 174k miles.

    On my test drive I realised there was an issue with the battery as it wasn't working as it should (had quite a few warning lights on dash) also had a really loud whining noise from front but at the price I wasn't going driving back empty handed.

    Whining noise now sorted turned out front left wheel bearing was shot, what's more worrying is the mot was only 4 days old.
    Looking into the battery issue I have picked up a few faults which are listed below

    P0A80 REPLACE HYBRD BATTERY
    P3021 BATTERY BLOCK 11 BECOME WEAK
    C1310 FAULT IN HV SYSTEM / ACTV BRAKE BOOSTER SOLENOID
    And lastly a P3000 code

    Any ideas of where I should start?

    I was thinking of replacing the 12v battery as I have heard this could cause problems if slightly weak.
    Any recommendations on which battery I should go for?

    gorgeous! congrats and welcome.

    i think john @Britprius used an exide iirc. worth doing a voltage and load test before replacing. and make sure the connections are clean and tight, especially negative to ground.

    you need a new hybrid battery, unless you want to pay whack a mole replacing cells.
    beware battery rebuilders, they don't last.

    you might need a brake actuator, i'm not sure. check the service manual at tech info.toyota.com

    I think the brake code is the “companion code” to the battery code. P3000 is the generic code for a battery issue. P3021 identifies the cell pair that is low. C1310 is the brake system saying “Hey, I know the HV battery is not working right, so the brakes may not be as effective as they should be”.

    Test the 12v battery first. If it winds up to be the battery replace it and see what codes come up after the replacement. Hopefully it’s the 12v. If not you have the 2 most expensive repairs that a gen 2 can have. How the hell did the car pass MOT with those codes?

    Thanks guys.

    I'm thinking of replacing the 12v batt more for peace of mind and also see if that cures any of the faults. Anyone know what battery is suitable and where to buy? (I'm UK based)

    Even I'm baffled as the lights have surely been on a while plus the bearing sound was so loud it was almost undrivable Skibob

    The codes given are for the high voltage battery not the 12 volt although as others have said do check the condition of the 12 volt.
    The high voltage battery can be rebuilt, but it takes time and patience to do.
    There are several battery re builders advertising in the UK, but there is only one I can recommend. I will put details at the end of this post.
    The battery can be re-furbished using good tested module replacements or completely fitted with new cells.

    I ended up getting a new, noon-AGM, "deep cycle" Marine battery. I've had it about 6 months now with no issues. I'm not worried about hydrogen build up, but if I was, I would get one of the vented plastic boxes that you can get at most auto parts stores.

    Good luck on what ever you get.

    Oh, I have a 2007 Prius base model, I think.
