Hello everyone… It appears that rodents have chewed my speed sensor wire and I need to replace it it’s on the front left wheel. My local Toyota dealer has quoted me $630 out the door. I am a level three out of five mechanic… So I’m pretty good at stuff how hard is it to replace this wire myself?
The harness is 90-$120. I have no idea what has to be taken apart to access connectors, but $650 seems high. Can the sensor wires be repaired in situ?
Have you had a good look, determined how much and where it it is chewed up? If it's an inch or two damage, accessible, I would just cut out the damaged area, splice in new wire of the same gauge, wrap it securely. Stagger your splices to avoid possible shorts. Jury's out regarding crimping-vs-soldered, which is more secure, but just for neatness I'd be inclined to solder, intermeshing the strands and ensuring the wires are well heated, flow the solder on.
The toyota service manager stated that i could do it myself...but they need to do the calibration to the computer. Does this sound correct? Or did i just buy blinker fluid?
They are doing the job tomorrow. Ive got time. If i do the “wire splice” option myself. How would i clear all of the dash lights? How would i get the pcs to realize it was fixed and now communicating? Reeboot? Btw. Thanks to you all for your help on this! Happy holindaze!
Who’s that guy in the avatar? Hope you saw him before it was too late. A canucks fan if nothing else .
