adding extra 4kw battery for more than double plug in miles

    so would i, but i think the chassis has to be redone to accept more batteries which will hopefully come with gen IV. but i don't think toyota is losing out to anyone yet. the future of transportation lies in the stars, whoever guesses correctly will profit. the volt is a great car for those with the right commute, but they won't keep selling them for $25,000. forever. tesla also great, but not for the masses yet. touting their next gen for 2016 doesn't mean it will be realized, though i certainly hope it will.

    How do you know? PHV is a midcycle release. It didn't make sense to go all out, especially knowing there's lots of great feedback to leverage from by limiting the release. After all, that approach worked extremely well with the Classic model.

    The next generation isn't too far off when you consider when design finalization must be completed.

    How do I know?
    I know I haven't seen much from them and I have seen better options, for me, from multiple competitors.
    I have also seen Toyota downplaying EVs and cutting back previous plans for EVs.

    Sure, it is possible they have a superior product in the works. I hope they do as competition drives innovation.

    As far as deliverable results, they are definitely dragging their feet.

    looking at the sales of all ev's and phev's and hybrids, i would say toyota is crushing the competition in hybrids and everything else doesn't add up to a hill of squat.

    Replaced plug in prius with tesla model s. update.
    Best decision I ever made in acar purchase. No range anxiety at all.
    Have used Newark supercharger several times, 20 minutes gives 150 more miles of range-free forever.
    Plug in car, get a snack, unplug and drive to next supercharger or home again.
    12,000 miles driven in 5 months. no gas ever. My only regret is that I did not by the stock several months ago at $35.00, it is over $100.00 - 5 months later. Could have sold now and bought the tesla with profit from amount received from sale of prius.
    Anyway, extended range with an engine is not as efficient as Tesla supercharger. BTW, to charge at home at a rate of 31 miles of range per hour, only requires a nema 14-50 240v outlet, no level II charger required. Plus you can use adapters for other standard outlets and for level II chargers.

    If you could manage a 100amp sub panel, and had the dual chargers, you could charge at or around 20kW's from home !!! I think PC member Efusco is set up with that. Most homes' main service panels won't support that kind of draw though - unfortunately ... especially if you already have central air ... electric oven etc.

    That's considered level 2 charging.
    I decided to wait for the Tesla III in 2018. CEO Musk claims it will have the same range/supercharger capability as the current car, but only $40,000 pricetag.

    No, he didn't.
    The official statements have been that it will be about 20% smaller, have a 200 mile range and a price target of $35k to $40k.

    just the fact that they list the plug in as 2010-2016 gives me the willy's.

    interesting that with all the pictures, they don't show a picture of the finished product. is that because there's no hatch left?
    'we can install into any vehicle no charge' is that a play on words?o_O

    I tried to contact them years ago. That's how long ago they started closing down. pretty shocked they'd still have even one store open, but in any event, if you go to there free software created website under testimonials, you'll find zero testimonials. 'nuf said.

    So, the latest ad link by them that I have posted here is a false business. Sorry for that. I was just excited to run my PiP bit longer miles for small additional amount (as my current employer is giving free charging at work ).. but thanks for your thoughts around that ad.

    If you want to add more capacity I recommend Plug in Supply since you are local. You can reach out to Robb. I plan to buy PiP shortly and transfer the PIS system I have in my Gen2 2007 touring to PiP.

    This is probably a zombie thread but I have to point this out because it's bugging me while reading through this... A 240V EVSE IS level 2 charging. Level 1 is 120V, 2 is 208-240V, 3 is DC quick charging (400-500V).
