    Hi all,
One of the two rad fans ( the left one, view from driver seat ) push air out and the other one pull air in engine compartment. Is this normal operation?

PS : Prius 2007 had a front collision some years ago and rebuilt.

    Thanks,
    Chanras Sun

The two fans were incorrectly installed during the accident repairs, as both should be sucking air from the outside of the car, past the radiator and air conditioner condenser, into the engine compartment.

Look at the one fan which is blowing in the wrong direction. Is the wiring harness connector intact or was it removed as part of the repair? If the factory wiring is not still present, probably the wires were connected incorrectly so that the motor is spinning in the wrong direction.

This is evidence of extremely poor repair workmanship, so look out for other problems associated with the accident repair.

I have found the solution. The rebuilder put the wrong fan blade. The rad fan has 7 fan blade, the AC fan has 5 fan blade and they supposed to rotate against each other. The rebuilder put the rad fan blade to the AC fan. I will have it changed tomorrow.

    Thanks

Well, I am familiar with a mistake where the two fans are swapped and both blow in the same incorrect direction.

However you have said only one fan is blowing in the wrong direction. If you swap fan blades while the motors continue to rotate in the same directions as now, wouldn’t you end up with the other fan blowing in the wrong direction?

I think he means to replace the one pushing the wrong direction, not swap the two?

The right side ( view from driver seat) is correct, the left side pushes the air out. I guess the rebuilder put (the right side of other Prius rad fan ) to my left rad fan (view from driver seat). I will replace only the left side.

So you are saying that both fans currently have the same number of blades?

Yes. 7 blades on both sides, which is not correct.
The left side should have only 5 blades.

@Patrick Wong If you have a repair manual for Prius 2007 and it's shareable ( I mean not restricted to license ) please kindly share with me ([email protected])
