    Hello all,

I apologize if this is covered anywhere, but I didn't see it when I did a google search and also a site search. I took delivery of '18 Prius Prime Advanced yesterday.

Question for you all. After I got the car home, the glove box seemed loose. It kept popping open when I was driving. Eventually the whole glove box came off and fell on the floor. I managed to reattach it, however, my question is this. When you all open your glove box is it a 'soft' open? Meaning, you open it and the box gently glides down? On my car, when you open it, it's a hard thud and fall.

The car came with some sort of aftermarket dealer installed security system scheme I did not want (and also didn't pay for), but already pre-installed by the dealer. I am wondering if that is why it might be loose from the installation. Or, is it normal for a fast quick hard drop when you release the latch? With the thickness and amount of manuals, seems like the poor thing is overloaded. Can anyone let me know on their particular cars?

Overall, the car is terrific! I feel overwhelmed with the amount of technology. I upgraded from a 2011 Prius Two, so this car is definitely a different beast. The steering and handling reminds more of a baseline luxury car (Mercedes C or BMW 3 - okay maybe a stretch) - but it's a definitely awesome car. I feel like I got a great deal - $6,000 off MSRP plus $7,000 for my trade....With the Oregon rebate and Federal Tax Credit Incentive that nets out at around $16,000 for a brand new loaded prime...

Anyhow, I really appreciate your responses on the glove box. If it's a normal hard drop, then I'll let it go, otherwise call the dealer and take it in.....ugh.....

There is an fluidic piston on the right side that enables the slow opening.
One end is permanently attached the lower end is attached to a pin on the glove box.
    Hope this helps.
Do a YouTube search on how to replace the cabin filter. You need to detach the piston and the video should make it clear.

Welcome to Prime ownership. It's an excellent vehicle and there are a lot of great people who are very helpful in answering questions or, at least, pointing you to places where you can find answers.

No, the glove box should not fall open, fall apart, or fall on the floor. You should get your dealer to correct the problem.

Yes, the manual is huge and somewhat difficult to navigate. I recommend downloading the PDFs of the user manual and nav system manual from Toyota's web site. Although most likely you will want to keep the printed books in the car, the PDFs have the advantage of being easily searchable on your computer or e-reader.

Thanks all. Your tips helped save a visit to the dealership! All is well and I plan on now relaxing and enjoying the new Prime. Just a bit alarming to write a really big check and then have the glove box fall off!

What was it then, that damper piston got disconnected?
