One of my prius’ was being driven the other night and the driver says it shut off while driving and wouldn’t turn back on. I’m picking it up now and attempting to start it, the cluster display comes on for a brief second and then cuts off. Not even allowing me to put it into neutral.

Check the AM2 fuse in the engine compartment. See if it's blown. If it is, then you most likely have a shorted inverter pump that needs to be replaced.

Do you rent out your car?

Do you mind sharing where that fuse is located? And yes I do.

It's in the engine compartment. On the driver's side, behind the headlight. There's a bunch of fuses in a box. On the back of the cover, there will be a diagram on where the AM2 fuse is located.

Okay so I changed the AM2 fuse and the car ran for about 30 seconds before it blew again. In the time that it was running it was smoking from the front driver side by the heat storage tank. I replaced the fuse again and the same thing happened, ran for about 30 seconds-1 minute, smoked, and the fuse blew again. I looked around a little and haven’t figured out the source yet.

    Any suggestions?

In the meantime I’m going to change the inverter pump.

You're not suppose to replace the fuse and run it, it blew for a reason.

You need to change the inverter pump first, then replace the fuse

Yes I know just needed to run it long enough to get it on and off the trailer, it broke down a couple towns away.

There's a bypass by unplugging it, image attached Screenshot_2018-06-16-13-14-02.jpeg
