I'm a first-time Prius owner. A little background: 2.5 years ago my daughter bought a 2008 Prius with 220k miles. It was a killer deal, but I was not real excited about that and told her to keep $2k in a savings account for repairs. She still has not had to touch those savings and the car has been a solid performer for 30k miles.

So I was looking for a daily driver and got a 2010 Prius II with 196k miles. Comparing her car to mine, my car rides noticeable rougher (I can feel every bump in the road) and her car definitely seems "zippier" - it feels like it accelerates faster. Although if I switch to "power" mode, it feels more like hers.

Is this normal, or do you think my car needs some suspension work?

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

At the mileage you are at and the area where you live, I’d get a set of KYBs and replace the stock suspension ;).

    Some other items to consider:
    • Egr circuit cleanse
    • Trans axle fluid drain and fill
    • Check oil level often to ensure you are on top of any oil consumption issues
Good luck with your new to you Prius (y).

The gen 2 did seem to ride a little more "floaty" especially when they got higher milage. I'd definitely replace your shocks and struts. I always like the way the gen 2 acclerated.
