I imagine that Toyota submitted a no-options car for mpg evaluation. Since this model weighs the least, I wonder how much weight the other options add to the Prius and what impact this has on mpgs. Could some of the mpg differences reported by members of this forum be related to the package they have?

Has someone seen a table detailing the extra weight added by the various packages?

Well, I believe the nav system adds a pretty negligible ten pounds.

From what I have heard, the biggest MPG impact would come from the rear wiper, as it adds drag. How big the impact is, however, I don't know.

    Weight issue? Possible, but doubtful

I am a musician (I play guitar) and theatre tecnitian, and at times a lazy one. I sometimes carry a lot of gear (about 3/4 of a full PA) in my 04 and have found very little if any effect that this has had on my mpg. I drive a lot, and have not noticed. I am assuming that the equipment I carry weighs much more than the difference between the lightest package and the heaviest. I average about 40-45 in the winter (I use 4 hakkapellita snow tires) , and 45-52 (I am convinced I will be able to get an average of 60 for at least one tank by thend of the summer) in the summer thus far. I have about 15000 mi. on my car, and live in NH, but play in Boston.
    Peace,
    Leko
