There is a storm that’s going to heat the big bear area this weekend and as a new Prius owner I was curious if I could make it up there with chains? I’ve always had a 4Runner so it was never a thought but I’m just not sure if chains would get me all the way up. Any mountain owners wish to chime in?

Climbing Big Bear can be a bit of a challenge and then coming back down can really stress the physical brakes. Turning the AC on should help absorb some of that regen energy. But who would do that in the winter.

There is a back end going to Big Bear that should be less stress to the car, but will add another hour to your drive. It is mostly desert driving.
