I will do so. The dealership did tell me that I could transfer the warranty to another vehicle, including a Prime, if I chose to, but I will certainly look into it. I will even call Toyota Financial and find out. Thanks again Viperman92.

Not a good deal and they're lowballing you on the trade. It's worth at least $21,000 trade in. Check KBB instant buy or Carvana.

I agree. I just checked my car with 13,000 miles on KBB and the Instant Offer is $22,525.

Why are you going from a 2017 the a 2018?

Price still ~$700 over invoice and other NY dealers are said to have sold well under invoice.

    Check
Langway Toyota, Newport Rhode Island. They have 19 primes - Ben Bowman was a really nice guy.
Toyota of Smithfield - Smithfield Rhode Island. They have 19 as well.
Balise Toyota - Warwick Rhode Island - They have one advanced model.
Greico Toyota - East Providence Rhode Island - they have 4 primes

They all gave me good prices but not as good as Tarbox, which is why we purchased from Tarbox..

I'm sure you know, just in case, whatever you find cheaper in the New England region (and you will), you will have to offset that with $1,100 NYS Clean Air Act rebate that you will lose by purchasing out-of-state, in addition to the $500 difference in factory rebates between the NY and New England regions. So the difference should be significantly greater than $1,600 (dealer discount + factory rebate) to be worth the drive.

Yes, but prorated for the remaining terms. e.g. for 7 year warranty for $700, you cancel it after one year, you got $600. Unfortunately, the so call "extended warranty" is based on the full 7 year term, has nothing to do with the original 3 year warranty.

Just to clarify, you got a Prime Premium for $29400
No dealer fees. And then got the Toyota rebate discount of $5000 right there at the dealer?
Looks like I wouldn't qualify for the NY clean air rebate, since I am from California.

But that means a Prime Premium would cost me 24400 out the door? Not sure how the tax thing would work, since I imagine I would have to pay California tax instead.

Then I can get the federal and Cali rebate once I register the car here.

Am I understanding it correctly. I am trying to decide whether it might make sense to fly to NY and drive the car home to SoCal.

Do you think they will have similar deals on 2019 Primes that are coming very soon?

    Thanks.

Did you just email them to get that price or what did you go through?

    Thanks.

For those of you who have been watching Prime prices for over a year, are there deals like these with high rebates later in January? February? March? etc? or just usually around this time of year?

If not at other times of year, then what kinds of Toyota rebates have you found during different months?

    Thank you in advance.

Hello Lily, maybe I can help answer the question of whether it's worth the flight from Cali to NY or NE area. I think the formula to compare is this:

CA = MSRP - Dealer discounts - Toyota factory rebate - $1,500 CA State rebate (FAQs | Clean Vehicle Rebate Project) + dealer fees (including document fees) + CA sales tax + CA DMV fees

    versus

NY/NE = MSRP - Dealer discounts - Toyota factory rebate + dealer fees (some might charge extra for out-of-state paperwork) + CA sales tax + CA DMV fees + cost of one-way flight to NY/NE airport + cost of transportation to the airport to the dealer + cost of travel/wear and tear driving the Prime back to California, roughly 2,800 miles

Just a few points in this comparison: first, you lose the CA State rebate of $1,500, since eligibility requires in-state purchase. Second, I don't think the federal rebate of $4,502 is affected, regardless of where it was purchased, as long the vehicle is brand new (versus used). Third, tax and dmv fees should be identical regardless of where the vehicle is purchased, since the sales tax is based on where you are registering the vehicle, ditto for the dmv license and registration fees. And finally, unless you like to do a cross-country sightseeing trip, you'll need to think about the 2,800 highway miles, highway speed = front paint/windshield damage. Hope this helps.

Around fall of 2017, Toyota started the cash rebate at around $1000, then gradually increased it. Different state has different rebate level, but the North East coast has the most, CA has the least. The differences could be $2000 vs $5000. It peaked at $5000 around May 2018 for the 2017 model. So I this year think the rebate program will continue until all 2018 model are gone. But I doubt if Toyota will further increase the rebate as it is already so high, IMO. I heard that there are still around 500 in the East coast inventory so it might take sometime to digest. However, if you are picky and just want certain color/trim level, then you might want to act fast as they might be gone soon.

Have a 2017 Premium, thinking of trading it in for a 2018 Advanced since the tax credit makes it worth the while. So far in New England area I have seen two dealers 'openly' (after submitting a form with 'contact info') advertise around $2,400 dealer discount, which is decent, but I've also seen some here get around the $3k discount mark or more, so I'm thinking of contacting a few dealers via e-mail at the same time and see if I can get at least $3k off in dealer rebates excluding the 4500 current Toyota rebate considering the full out-the-door price. Tax is not an issue as I'm in NH.

    Edit:
I was thinking the college grad rebate would also atack, but seems that is with financing or leasing only as far as I can tell

Thanks for your response. So, last May they gave a large rebate on 2017 ones, but not on the available 2018 ones at the time. I am trying to figure out whether I should just on a 2018 one right now or wait a month for 2019 ones with similar rebates.

What kind of rebate did they have on the 2018 ones when they first came out?

You are the second person I have seen mention not getting the California state rebate. From what I am seeing on their website, I would still qualify for that rebate, since I live in California and would be registering the car in California. I will call them and check though.

I am concerned about whether some states charge tax on all cars sold in the state. I am trying to decipher the NY info and it wasn't clear. If I have to pay tax in both states that would suck.
