Yes. I plan on canceling as soon as possible. I’ve been swamped at work this week, but hopefully will cancel it this weekend. Thank you for your continued support.

Yes, I do have Apple Car Play and the Lane Trace Assist. The only disadvantage is the fuel economy is so poor after driving a Diesel for ~5 yrs. I’d getting about 25-29 (small town driving), but I also know I’m still in the breakin period, and fuel economy gets better after that. Yes, I am considering this move very carefully. I will cancel the extended warranty though. I’m happy with everything else I put on it, and had very specific reasons for each accessory. The hatch does drive so well and it’s a lot of fun too. I do appreciate you being able to consider a different perspective and balancing all factors out to help me think through all the pros and cons. Thank you very much.

Do you have data on how many miles per year or per month that you drive?

    Great...
Perhaps you'll indulge me a little bit further by reading this thread.

@ATHiker did a really great break down of the cost of operating that particular Prius for 100K.

My take-away from this is that fuel efficiency is only a relatively small part of the overall expense of operating a car....and the largest overall financial impact to you when you're in your thirties is how much money......money costs.
I especially like the fact that he used a realistic (4%) number - but the real impact (as pointed out in the thread) is that you lose the potential investment return on the money that you shovel into new cars - for the rest of your working life.

I spend a lot of time in cars, since my Prius is a work car and I'm on the road a lot between the 7 facilities that I generally work in....and so I can fully appreciate that little things mean a lot.
However (comma!!!!) just remember that every time you drive a new car off of a dealer lot it's costing you much more than you might appreciate when the payment is auto debited and you pay at the pump for fuel.

I agree with what you're saying. I am thinking this through carefully, especially after the mistakes I made. Thanks again ETC(SS).

Hi Viperman, I haven't forgotten you. I suddenly got swamped at work. I usually put 15,000-18,000 per year. I still plan to send you the info I agreed to send you. Appreciate your patience.

So much angst could of been avoided if the OP would of just taken Orange and named it "Halloween".

Its too bad that you purchased a car that it now appears you are stuck with. If you don't want to take a lost right away, then you should keep that vehicle. However, as of last night there are several Prius Prime Advances available for purchase from dealers throughout the states, for good prices too. If you consider the Federal and State rebates, you could still get a Prime Advance at a good price, and do better than just breaking even. Check out the national inventory on the Car Curus web site. If you find the right vehicle, I am certain that the dealers will work with you, and, you never know, you just might still come out ahead, after the rebates, and save a lot of dollars over the the life of your Prime. if you need any advice, let me know. Adrian

How is it possible the OP spent $35k for a Corolla? I did a custom build on a 2019 Corolla XSE on Toyota's website, chose every option possible including paint protection, TRD accessories, etc... and it came out to $28,726. Assume 10% tax, and now it's at <$32k. Where did the extra $3k come from?

I’m a woman, let me say something: yes, women buy stuff based on emotion! I had my last car in red, I shopped for 3 months thru dealerships and private seller, first on my list is color!
And if I don’t like the car, I will not take it no matter you cut down the price. So for Angela’s case, if she really doesn’t like the Corolla why would she bought it in the first place, and significantly over-priced! She should trade-in or resale or gifted to someone and go for the Prime she liked! I won’t drive even one day in the car I don’t like.

No one called you stupid. But I too find it quite questionable that an engineer bought a Corolla for $35k and deferred to the dealer's 'warning' about taking it easy, keeping the speed quite low on one of the most widely used mass produced car by one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world.

    It's an unfortunate situation.
But the OP seems stuck. Having now invested so much into the Corolla, she can't afford to trade it in, resell it, of give it away as a gift.

IMO there is no easy answer here.

Also IMO it doesn't have anything to do with gender. Men and women both discover cars they like, and can be passionate about wanting them. Go to an Auto Show or Gathering and take a look at how many Men and Women are "emotional" about their vehicles. And EVERYBODY can make mistakes in regards to purchasing.

Unfortunately, I don't have an easy answer for the OP. My suggestion was to perhaps seek out a consumer lawyer and see if there is any way to leverage a more equitable buy back. The trade in depreciation on an almost brand new vehicle in this case is paralyzingly horrific if not unexpected.

    IMO barring that?
I'm sincere in saying the Corolla is great vehicle. Sometimes a difficult beginning actually leads to bonding us closer to something. What happened, has happened but with the passing of some time? You could come to really enjoy the Corolla. Especially fully loaded,- it's got to be a great vehicle.

There are extenuating circumstances to this situation, but at it's heart it's really just a case of buyers remorse. Sometimes that passes.

I just did the same thing and added all the options - I'm at $29k. Maybe they played on this lady's desperation for a car.

At least the Corolla hatch is a decent car - I know a couple people (car enthusiasts) with them and they seem genuine very happy with them as daily drivers.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It's a shame you couldn't get too order another one. But on the good side in three years you can trade this one in for a better Prime would you probably have get more EV miles and other update improvements. So you might be better off with the newer improvements. Always look on the bright side. Never look back. It just was not meant to be and the Toyota Corolla is not a bad car.

Given the gas mileage numbers she quoted, I can't help but wonder if it isn't really a Camry.

Cut your losses if it is causing you such emotional turmoil and distress. I am completely and utterly baffled by the story though. Why would they paint the entire car orange to cover a few scratches?
