I just bought a 2016 Prius v. I bought from Carvana - which is definitely a new experience for me. I will have to see how it all plays out, but so far it's been preferred to dealership experience. I have completed the purchase and will wait about a week for delivery. I guess the wait is the biggest negative so far, but it gives me a week to read up (plus clean out my old car).

I had a 2008 Honda CRV. I loved it. About two years ago, it was totaled. Someone hit me from behind (that driver had a minivan and they were going pretty fast). It just like a smashed bumper and when we took for repair, they estimated about $1000 repair and one week but a few days later they called and said it was worse than they thought - it was buckled underneath. But other than a wonky neck, I was fine - so I'm glad for that. I then bought a 2013 Chevy Equinox - mostly because it had low mileage. It was very basic. I've had it for abut two years. I don't love it. Terrible side mirrors, ok gas mileage but not great (22/city; 32 hwy...I was getting about 25-27). In Nov, a transmission issue came up. The warranty on part expired 10 days before. We went round and round we dealer and Chevy -- and bargained for a $430 credit toward a $1500 repair but then another issue came up before we did the repair. That was a $1200 repair. It as related to an electronic issue related to post factor sunroof. They then weren't sure if the transmission issue was actually an issue so they said to drive and if it happens again, come back in for the transmission repair. But I am too fed up with the car to put another big chunk of money into a a car I dislike. Also, in January my office was relocated so my commute increased from 13 miles to 35 miles. So when I factored in all of that, I decided to trade in Equinox for Prius. The Prius v is a slight compromise of mileage with Prius, but I think the extra space will be useful for my family. There were some features the Prius v has over the Prius -- the back seats sliding/reclining, the extra space, the visibility out back window and ultimately what was available considering price/features/mileage was a Prius v. I would have likely been fine with a Prius, but I know the extra room will be appreciated.

I very much wanted the Sea Glass Pearl. I didn't get it. I got the Blue Ribbon Metallic. It's probably my second or third fav color. I did get the five with Advanced Tech Package. I have three teen drivers; safety is important factor too.

So now I'm reading here and trying to learn all I can.

Did I mention I haven't even driver a Prius? Ha! Obviously I'm not one to care a lot about driving performance. I am more interested in saving fuel and functional, practical featuers.

This sounds like a real adventure! You haven't driven a Prius, have to wait a week for delivery. So can we assume you have seen the car?

If this was explained, I apologize for my reading skills.

Welcome to PriusChat! I hope you enjoy your Prius as much as I do mine!

Some 'I don't feel like an idiot with 3 teens watching' advice:

To get to Ready, you have to have your foot pressing down the Brake pedal when you press Power.

B is for long down hills, just in case you live in Asheville. (think L)

On my 2012, there is a warning that displays right when I want to go in reverse, so wait a second after starting before moving, so the display works right.

If you lock on the inside after everyone has opened their door, you never need to use the fob. On your v, either front door or the hatch will unlock them all.

P is a separate button, not on the shifter.
It automatically goes into P when you power off the car, no need for two steps.

The car is never charging the big battery when you are in N, minimize your use of N.

Ask here and you will get plenty of (conflicting) advice, sometimes it seems like we gang up on you, just because we are all typing at once and all say the same thing.

Cool! If anyone with v 15-17 wants to spice up the front bumper. I added some teeth to my v using chrome door guards. I had to tape and silicone the ends over night so they won't come off.

That's right - I have neither driven a Prius or have seen the car it in real life. Carvana has a lot pictures of interior, exterior and they apparently show any imperfections so you know what you are buying. I am relying upon reviews, lots of reading, etc.
