I use Neutral when rolling an angled front wheel against a curb, parking on steep hills. That's about it.

Simplest solution: avoid this style of car wash. This car wash style was designed when all cars were capable of being off and in Neutral, and that's how they're intended to be used. The Prius transaxle is incapable of being off and in Neutral.

Shop around, there are plenty of the other style of car wash, where you drive in, and stop. Then the apparatus passes along the length of the car.

Ahh, good thing you wrote out your story.

What activated is most likely NOT PCS but rather ICS lol. (similar function but for different speeds).

In that case, you actually want to turn off ICS in the menu but it doesn't hurt to turn off PCS as well. Just remember to turn them back on after you exit the car wash (PCS will turn on the next time you start the car but ICS will remain off until you turn it back on manually).

Turning off ICS will also turn off the beeping.

    Yup, same.

I've had my prime for about 4 months now and wash it almost every week. I use the full hand washes and when in a rush the cheap $6 washes where you sit in the car but in both washes the car is in neutral and being pulled by the rollers and I have never had an issue with the auto brake. Maybe take it to the dealer and have them check out why yours went off?

What I wouldn't suggest is to completely avoid going to these types of car washes as others have suggested. That just makes no sense to, at all. If our Primes have all these crazy high tech features why should they struggle going through a simple car wash? One of the car washes that I go to almost always has high end vehicles with a lot more safety tech, including auto-pilot, going through same conveyor that pulls your car while in Neutral with no issues so I don't see why our car should have any issues.

Sorry for that rant. It just bothered me when somebody said "avoid these types of car washes" multiple times when there is absolutely no reason for you to inconvenience yourself.

Keep in mind that you do not have ICS in your Premium model.

So really, it's for those who have ICS, just be cautious that the sensors may briefly apply the brakes.

The high end vehicles do not have ICS.

Is that a typo at the end? I thought only high end had ICS.

    What ?? I don't think so.
Others have said that regulations require a Neutral so that the car can be moved when dead.

Nope: off, it's a brick. Maybe unique in that "feature"?

Sorry, I meant high end cars (luxury cars). They have parking sensors, yes but not ICS.

The next closest would be City Safe but Volvo uses a single radar for that instead of 4 sonar sensors in the front. (ICS has 8 sensors - the other 4 are IPA sensors)

I realize this thread may seem a bit old, bit I'm just sending along an update for anyone who may have felt that I was either crazy or didn't know how to operate my Prime Advanced.....

I rec'd in the mail this week a Special Service Campaign notice from Toyota that specifically states: "Due to improper software programming in the Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) system, the ICS system may improperly activate when an involved vehicle enters certain types of carwash facilities and is place into neutral. If the ICS system activates, the ICS system will exhibit warnings and the system may apply the brakes."

Just passing this info along so that others can either look for the mailing or ask their dealer about whether or not their ICS system needs to be updated. The mailing was VIN # specific, so I'm not sure if this applies to all Primes or not......

Put in neutral and it should be a problem, hopefully.
