Brought the only car I could afford and the engine, transmission, brakes, electric motor, chassis, and hybrid battery all seem to be in good condition. The mileage is 220K and I want to push it to 500k but it came with some electrical issues from what I could observe; the dome light, key fob, clock, radio will not come on, also VSC shows up on the dash, fuel gauge is slow to respond.

Sometimes the problem goes away for mere seconds or sometimes minutes, and the key fob tends to work more often then the other issues mentioned.

Lastly, my suspicion is that the issue is the combination meter, as the dash board and a incorrectly positioned air vent on the driver side indicates it was looked at before, maybe possibly a failed DIY attempt?

Please can someone that has encountered these issues let me know what there resolution was? or if there is an experienced tech here that can confirm my suspicions so I may order a new combo meter.

I checked the dome light fuse and it's OK.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

    Some questions:
    • How long have you owned your Prius?
    • How many miles have you put on your Prius?
    • What’s the 12v battery voltage after sitting overnight?
    • What’s the voltage of each key fob battery?
    The combo meter sounds failed;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Thanks for the second opinion...I wanted to make sure my hunch was accurate.

    • Owned it for a week.
    • I took it for a drive to jersey from PA, so about 240 miles back and fourth and the engine, hybrid battery, and transmission(what ever type my car has) worked flawlessly.
    • Battery voltage is good since I replaced with a optima AGM battery although its helped with the issue, but to unnoticeable degree. Just in case, I'll take a measurement in the morning with load and with out any.
    • I'll also check the key fob in the morning, but when I press a button the LED indicator lights up brightly so I did't think it was the remote.

if you want to push it to 500k, you will need to(y) get a copy of tech stream diagnostic software and a subscription to the service manual.

spend as much time here searching for pertinent repair threads.

    all the best!

Thanks, will this allow me to diagnose the car thoroughly? and why is the subscription so expensive, can I just pay for it when I need it or do you recommend year long sub?

you can get a two day subscription at a time for $20. and download what you need. tech stream will give you the trouble codes, and the service manual troubleshooting tree will find the culprit

the gen2 manual may be on line for free if you search
