I'm willing to spend around $1500 (includes installation fee) on upgrading the sound system in my 2008 Prius. It has a JBL sound system with nav and I have no idea where to start. I love loud, detailed and accurate sound with none of that sloppy bass. I like to listen to all types of music but I tend to lean towards hip hop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I'd love to keep the audio controls that are on my steering wheel if possible.

I'm working on this. I got a Pioneer AVH-1440NEX from Crutchfield because I wanted a CD slot and CarPlay but I don't need Nav and I did not want a motorized faceplate. My installer advised Alpine brand is better/lasts much longer but I wasn't willing to spend the 1200-1500 on a 12 year old car. One recommendation he made was to avoid the motorized faceplate. I have JBL as well which requires an additional part to install any head unit. Parts are far less expensive on Crutchfield or Amazon than they were going to be from my installer. So I would look at Alpine if I were you. I'll post a review of the Pioneer after I have it installed next week.
