Can you do your own repairs and could do without the car for a week or two? That seems to be the breaking point on gen 2 Prius. If you can’t do car repair just move on to a non hybrid.

As far as 300,000 I had a Camry with over 300,000 miles original engine and transmission and a Tacoma and 4Runner both with about 250,000 miles each, both original engines and transmissions. See the common bond? Toyota.

i think you're misreading most of the anti older prius posts.

prius is, as or more reliable, in later years and miles than most any car on the road.

however, some specialty components are more expensive to fix.

we only hear horror stories, that's the nature of a car chat room. there are many here who have hundreds of thousands of mostly trouble free miles as you hope for.
but we can't give you percentages of trouble vs trouble free, it's a calculated risk.

for those who can diy, as ski says above, it's a no brainer. but for those who can't, you can read about their multi thousands of dollars repairs and unhappiness at having a car that needs more in repairs than it's worth.

all the best with your decision, we can't make it for you.(y)
