Sorry to see/hear about your crash. Good luck with the insurance. FYI there are still significant manufacturer incentives for the Prime in NY state.

AWD isn't going to help you stop. All cars have 4-wheel-stop. A ton of SUV owners find themselves in roadside ditches thinking how great their cars are in inclement weather.

I went to college with a girl who rolled-over 3 BMWs in the span of 2 years. I don't understand why her parents just kept replacing them.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You should get a decent payout from your insurance company. Don't accept their 1st offer unless its great. I think you should get a new prime. Even if you dont have a place to charge. the deals are too good. My mom was able to get a Plus model for $21,8xx plus tax PRIOR to the fed phev tax credit in Rhode Island in DEC 18. You could prob get for $20,500-21k now that the rebate went up 1k. Also, you could possibly get an advanced model for about 26k. My wife bought a 17 Advanced last May for 26k + tax.

    Good Luck!

Like I mentioned, the prices have only gotten better. If OP is willing to"settle" for a plus, he can get one for 17k before taxes.

    Prius Prime Plus: MSRP 28500
    Dealer discount:$3500
Toyota rebate: $3500 (now $5000 in NY state! This might affect what kind of dealer discount you can get though)
    Federal tax rebate: $4500
Net price: $ 17000 before taxes and Doc fees.

This has been one of the hardest winters I can remember. Everywhere in the country. We are already 12 inches over our winter average of 24 inches (36 inches so far). They are calling for another foot of snow Friday thru Tues of the coming week. When will it end? I want to see a robin. The car being low to the ground seems to pick up a lot of snow slush around the tire rims.

That may be a Commonwealth thing, but is not a U.S. practice.

Not here. Here in the Pacific Northwest, this seems more like a reminder of what common winters could be like in the 1970s and 80s, before becoming a bit less common in the 90s and significantly more scarce this century. (1960s excluded because my personal memories from then are too sparse for comparisons.)

Yes, this winter is a bit harder than average compared to back then, but still well within the normal variance range of what I remember. This isn't coming anywhere close to the coldest temperatures or deepest snows or longest white grounds I remember.

I can't believe that we are seeing the most snow and cold weather in 20 or 30 years and global warming advocates will still say "Not here." When do you remember 1800 dairy cows dying in Washington State from cold weather exposure as happened this week? I was born here in 1939 and never heard of such a thing.

    Re: Mass dairy cow deaths.

Coming from a beef ranching family -- and cow-sitting them this very week -- I strongly question whether it was from unprecedented weather. More likely, it was from poor animal husbandry, not giving then access to adequate shelter, from operators too young to remember when these conditions were expected. Or too cheap to provide it.

During blizzards, livestock need a windbreak or other shelter (timber on this old family farm, sometimes inside barn when I was little) to avoid exposure. And access to unfrozen water. Many large open feedlots no longer have such facilities, just some shade structures for summer heat.

And don't discount the selection bias of going by just what makes news headlines. Just because it isn't in the headlines you saw, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

I need to buy a big chest freezer so I can buy from folks like your family in half-cow increments. CAFO beef makes me sad.

They don't happen to raise Washaygu, do they?

Did they give you a cost estimate for the repairs they're not going to do since it's totaled? Just for information.

No, just Hereford with a few Angus crosses. And with animals leaving live on the hoof, we wouldn't sell any half units. ;)

It probably wouldn't take much to get organic grass-fed free-range certifications. But with many environmentalists insisting on 'eating local', this is too remote from any big population center. The transportation costs of individual units makes it noncompetitive with suppliers much closer to those populations. And many of them don't eat that much beef anymore. However, any changes must wait until the generational transfer happens, expected within a very few years. Or sooner. But the new management and marketing will be by a sibling, not me. I'm headed for full retirement, not a hobby farm.

Yes I believe they said $21,000 to repair most of that cost being air bag related

Well guys in my search for a used Prius and trying to make a deal on a 2016 Prius v3 that was 23k after taxes and fees I was discouraged, however they mentioned they had insane discounts on a new 2018 prime, I said tell me more ...
I got them to go down to 26k our the door on a 2018 prime basic trim level. With the $4,502 federal tax credit we will get next year it effectively makes the new vehicle 21,500

While those new tires won't be as nearly good on snow and ice as real snow tires, they will get through the rest of this winter season with far better traction than those 55k-mile tires on his just-wrecked car.

But at his annual driving rate, their initial winter performance will be seriously degraded by next winter, and completely gone after that.

Yeah definitely investing in snow tires and maybe backup set of rims from eBay for next season. Yes little color switchup just for fun. Noticed using tire assistant that they are a little high pressure I guess from shipping I think I’ll sneak a little air out till they are 34-36
