ok, here is the first post in the Long Island forum. i' in Babylon and hope to have my prius next week, driving it home from WV.

Since we are geographically small, maybe we will have opportunities to exchange info that will be useful, like which dealers actually know what they are doing when servicing the prius, etc.

Welcome to all, let's have some fun!

Congratulations on picking up your new car and enjoy the ride home. It will be unforgettable!! I purchased my car up in Connecticut and have had it serviced (oil change etc) at two places in CT and the the New York Inspection performed at the Toyota Dealer in Riverhead.

I am searching around for a dealership that I am comfortable at before I get the 40D performed. I am looking for a dealer that has performed this numerous times before they attempt it on my car.

When you get home from WV make sure that you contact the State and see if they extended the Sales Tax refund policy. See other posts for the details.

Good luck and again, enjoy the ride!

i wonder if i will need to have the 40d recall done on mine buying it now? i suppose i can research in on here easily enough to find out... first things first.

the dealer i like that is relatively near me is oakdale. i still actually have an order in there but will cancel it now. they were very nice but i will get a kick out of driving out to cancel in the prius.

anyway, they have always been nice when i have been there, and their service dept is open on saturdays, a plus.

Sure, I'll go to one of your gatherings. Will you by any chance be driving your red 9 there? :evillaugh:

If not, where will you be storing it?

I was on LI over this past weekend in aarons12 neighborhood; West Islip for my neice's graduation.

I saw two '04 while on the island. One, a driftwood on the Sagtikos and the other a silver on the LIE. I still can't get over the number of MBs and BMWs; they're everywhere.

yeah, long island, the land of stupid money... people in babylon/west islip paying $700,000 to a mil for houses and then tearing them down to build edifices to themselves, ridiculously oversized for the neighborhood...

some of it is legit, but a lot of it is either over-extended credit or from questionable sources... if my 112 year old business wasn't so firmly tied here, i would be out of here in a sec. i couldn't afford to buy my own house again.

    Pruis 2004

    Hi All,

I've been driving my new fully loaded salsa red pruis 2004 since October 30th 2003 and I love the car. Had a couple of recallings to re-programme the computer but otherwise no problems. I'm notiicing a lot more priuses on the road lately. I guess I got lucky since I placed my order in October and got my car in 2 weeks. I noticed Atlantic Toyota got some new salsa red ones today!

    Have Fun!

i just had mine to sunrise toyota today (see other thread about touch screen not working) and the first thing i got was that they would 'have to ask toyota' whether my non-functioning touch screen is covered under the warranty on my 2 week old car... there is a hairline crack in the plastic covering the screen, which might be considered 'physical damage' which isn't covered.

however someone else on here had the exact same problem, so this will be interesting... a defective batch of screens, perhaps?

anyway, i will keep posting info here since one of the best things about a 'local' forum should be exchange of that kind of info for our mutual benefit!

Thanks for the recommendation of Riverhead Toyota for the 40D service. I went to them once and enjoyed the experience so I was thinking about going to them for the service but hadn't gotten around to calling them yet to schedule an appt.

Problem with my '01 ignition key locking into the switch!

    Hi,LI Priusers. Just found you.

    Bought mine Nov.'00.
Key stuck in ignition lock 3 times:
    -Sarnia, Ontario ~5000 mi. Dealer there just wiggled, pulled it out, Dec.,'00;
    -Holland, MI, ~22000 mi.,July'03. Dealer there took it in, made adjustment to [sic.]'connection shifter-to-steering lock';
-Coram, NY, 38000 mi., last week, just the next day after Competition Toyota changed oil.
Got the key out after disconnecting 12v battery. It has been with them since. So far they've put in new 12v, front brake rotors & pads, and a new ignition switch which arrived from Japan yesterday. But problem persists.
PS: They are poor about calling back to keep me informed.
    Any suggestions or info?[font=Arial:00737c5f32] [/font:00737c5f32]

Re: Problem with my '01 ignition key locking into the switch

i have been trying for over a month now to have warranty replacement of my touch screen at sunrise toyota. nice folks but they have not called me once. i call them once a week for the latest news.

as of yesterday they were telling me that although the toyota rep approved the replacement, now the manufacturer of the screens is refusing. great system, and the customer is in the middle

Hello to all Prius out in Long Island
I'm a Newbee and got my Silver Package #9 about one month ago at Millenium Toyota in Hempstead although I live in the Holbrook area in Suffolk. I am in love with my new car!! I previously had a lexus RX 300 Suv and was a bit concerned about gettig use to the hybrid. No problem at all. The car is terrific.I just purchased today the new Verizon Motorola V710 which is Bluetooth for use with the Nav system. ( It was available at Radio Shack at the SUN-Vet Mini Mall)If anyone is interested let me know and I'll report back with how it works once I hook it up to my Pruis.
Look out for me on the roads. I'm easy to spot as my Ny plates read " A HYBRID "

I'm *VERY* interested in the phone details -- I have verizon with three phones, and I don't want to switch carriers. If it works OK, I'm there!

I just picked up my car yesterday, but I have a bad bluetooth jones already..... Just had the NAV system find my way to the office from a remote corner of 25A - this is terrific!

To other 516 and 631ers -- I'm up for a Prius meet-up somewhere (diner?), any takers??

There's a website called meetup.com that's designed to help organize meetups like these.....whaddya think?

a meet-up might be fun though i tend to take my avanti to more gatherings than my prius, since it's even more unique...

there are plenty of good diners and plenty of evil ones too. i have monthly meetings at the island grill at hospital road, exit 54 sunrise highway, patchogue and they do a nice job and have a decent sized parking lot.

i offer that as a suggestion since it's somewhat central and easy to get to.
